It's MRC Foundation day at Caulfield this Saturday, as the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke gives punters an early look at potential Cox Plate contenders.
There are plenty of great clashes to get stuck into with the feature race wedged between two Group 3 events, the Foundation Cup and How Now Stakes.
It's shaping up to be a cracking afternoon, with plenty of value on offer for punters across the card.
Track Conditions
The Caulfield track is currently rated a Good 4, with fine weather predicted for Melbourne on Saturday.
At the last meeting here, the rail was in the true position and there was no bias evident.
The rail moves out 3m for the entire circuit on Saturday and you can expect all horses to get a fair chance once again.
Caulfield Race 7 - Foundation Cup 2000m (Group 3)
The Map
In Good Health (17) and Think We’re Due (16) will work across from an outside draw and should lead.
Look for Dr Drill (6) and Orderofthegarter (4) to get favourable on-speed runs from a nice draw.
Expect Game Keeper (10) to settle off the speed mid-field, whilst Kinane (14) will go back and aim to sweep home.
The Favourite
Orderofthegarter has now had three starts in Australia for three seconds over a period of two years.
This is the first time he’s raced after a three-week break. Really, it’s now or never for him.
He’s going to have a perfect run and Danny O’Brien is sure to have him at peak fitness.
Analysis & Tips
Everything sets up well for Orderofthegarter.
Jumping from barrier four, Damien Oliver will be able to position him behind the expected fast speed without doing too much work.
He'll be in a perfect striking position on entering the straight, and you can expect him to charge home.
Of the others, Dr Drill draws well and is ready to win.
Game Keeper and Kinane are the untapped runners in terms of potential and should be included in exotics.
1st Orderofthegarter
2nd Dr Drill
3rd Game Keeper
4th Kinane
Caulfield Race 9 - How Now Stakes 1200m (Group 3)
The Map
She’s A Thief (6) only knows one way and that’s to lead.
Expect Felicia (12) to follow and take a sit behind the mare.
Our Campana (5) and Jentico (4) will also apply early pressure, whilst you can expect race favourite Lyre (3) to be mid-field on the fence.
The Favourite
Lyre looks perfectly placed here.
The godolphin mare is long overdue for another win though, given she's had 11 starts since clinching the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes in Autumn last year.
This is the first time she's been back to this track and distance since her triumph as a two-year-old.
Analysis & Tips
First-up at Caulfield last start, Lyre was momentarily held-up in the straight which cost her victory behind top mare Diamond Effort.
At her previous run, she finished third behind Trekking and Gytrash in the Goodwood. That's tremendous form for this.
There’s going to be good speed in this clash and she will need a slice of luck from barrier three.
But if she jumps well and settles on the fence midfield, expect her to charge home over the top of them.
Of the others, Missile Mantra has had little luck recently but has the class to bounce back.
Felicia will enjoy getting a sit off She’s A Thief, and look for Humma Humma to fly home.
1st Lyre
2nd Missile Mantra
3rd Felicia
4th Humma Humma
