The stage is set for one of the biggest days of the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill.

With the rail out 3m and a Good 4 surface, conditions should ensure a fair contest across all distances, while tempo and race positioning will be crucial in the major races.

Luke Hovhanesian and Mick Gannon have done the hard yards and found some standout plays in the feature events including the Golden Slipper, The Galaxy, Rosehill Guineas, and George Ryder Stakes.

Let’s dive into their best selections for the day.

Race 8 - Golden Slipper

#16 Marhoona $10.00 & #13 Tempted $5.00

The Golden Slipper is the pinnacle of 2YO racing in Australia, and this year’s edition shapes as an ultra-competitive affair.

Marhoona enters the race bringing a huge last-start figure and has already proven herself against high-pressure race tempos.

The third-up profile is ideal, and she has the tactical speed to land in the box seat behind the leaders, giving her every opportunity to strike first in the straight.

Tempted rates as the top selection, drawing a perfect midfield position this time around.

She brings the highest recent figure into the race and has already shown her ability to sustain a high-pressure tempo.

If she holds her current form, she will be right in the mix, and crucially, she maps better than Wodeton heading into the home turn.

Race 9 - The Galaxy

#14 Commemorative $6.50

This is Commemorative's toughest test to date, but with just 51kg on her back and a perfect run in transit, she has all the conditions to produce a career-best performance.

She comes off a huge peak rating last start and if she repeats that effort, it will be enough to win this race.

The inside lanes are expected to be advantageous over the 1100m, giving her the perfect rails run to launch a winning burst.

Commemorative is flying and has all the tools to take out The Galaxy in a high-class field.

Race 6 - Rosehill Guineas

#4 Checkmate $16.00

The Rosehill Guineas is always a tactical affair, and this year’s edition is no exception.

Checkmate has been building beautifully across this campaign, with several great runs just below the mile in New Zealand.

He’s bred to excel over the trip, being a full-brother to Banker's Choice and by 2015 Australian Derby winner Mongolian Khan.

Trained by the Lance O'Sullivan & Andrew Scott stable, his preparation has been meticulously planned with the Rosehill Guineas as the ultimate target.

Unexposed and on a strong upward trajectory, he looms as a huge upset chance at a big price.

Race 7 - George Ryder Stakes

#3 Royal Patronage $5.00

Royal Patronage caught punters off guard when resuming in the Canterbury Stakes, delivering a strong win after sitting on speed.

He thrived with on-pace favours, and there’s every reason to believe he can replicate that in the George Ryder Stakes.

Last preparation, he missed the start in the 7 Stakes, settled further back than ideal, and ended up giving Fangirl the perfect tow into the race before finishing a game third.

If he jumps cleanly on Saturday, he can control the race up front and prove tough to catch.

Jockey Tim Clark is a huge believer in this horse’s ability, and all indications are that he has continued to improve this prep.

If he gets into his rhythm early, he will be extremely hard to run down in the straight.
