Moonee Valley steps into the Group 1 spotlight for William Reid Stakes Day, and while the weather in the lead-up has been less than ideal, it might be a blessing for the track staff who won’t need to over-irrigate.
With the rail in the True position and a soft track expected, it’s fair to assume that on-pace runners will be suited early, but as always, we’ll be keeping an eye on any shift in pattern throughout the day.
Now let’s dive into what could be a perfect late-play on the card.
Moonee Valley Best Bet and Tips from Jack Dickens
Jack continues to nail his best bets at a good rate!
Race 10 – #8 Scillato
This unbeaten 3YO filly has done everything right so far this prep, and she looks ready to explode third-up.
Her closing sectionals in both wins have been sharp — a clear indicator that this is a filly with above-average potential and still plenty of improvement to come.
The map is a little tricky, but if she can slot in one-off with cover, the expected tempo should allow her to build through her gears and launch late with a withering finish.
Last start down the Flemington straight she still showed a touch of greenness but managed to get the job done — that performance suggests she’ll be better suited around a bend, especially with something to chase.
We’re being offered a nice price again on this filly, and I’m more than happy to be with her. The setup looks ideal, and there’s every chance she goes to another level here.
So for those looking for one late in the day — Scillato is the bet.
And if you’re playing the Golden Slipper up in Sydney — I’ll be backing Tycoon Star each-way.
Best of luck and enjoy what’s shaping up to be a cracking day of racing!
