The Autumn (or rather, Summer) Carnival kicks off in style at Caulfield this Saturday, headlined by the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes.

While it's a race of interest, there’s another prime betting opportunity on the card worth steering into.

Track Conditions & Rail Analysis

The rail is True, and with warm conditions leading into the weekend, expect the track to favour those on speed.

However, the tempo will be key given the extended break from racing at Caulfield and the hot weather.

Historically, runners positioned on speed but slightly off the rail can be advantaged in these conditions.

Best Bet – Race 8 #7 Windstorm $13.00 (Saver on #4 Chorlton Lane $4.00)

A ripping set-up for Windstorm on Saturday, and here’s why:

  • Jockey Upgrade – Logan Bates gave Windstorm a great ride last start, but Jye Mott jumps aboard this time, which is a superb fit for this horse.
  • Barrier Switch – Last week, Windstorm was trapped four wide without cover yet still charged home late. Drops from barrier 12 to barrier 3, which should allow him to settle much closer—a huge advantage at Caulfield.
  • Perfect Set-Up – On the seven-day backup, and Caulfield suits—he has four starts for two wins at the track, proving he thrives here.

Chorlton Lane is the main danger, but at double-figure odds, Windstorm represents a great wager.

Best of luck to all involved with Mailbag Bloodstock & Windstorm!
