Luckless Runner Finally Maps Well

Metro racing in SA this Saturday heads to the wide open expanses of Murray Bridge, where a massive 10-race card awaits punters.

The track is currently rated a Soft 7, with the rail out 5 metres, a set-up that typically favours swoopers later in the day.

With big fields and rain-affected ground adding further complexity, Heath Pope is approaching the program with value on his mind.

He's focusing on each-way value runners who are primed to handle the conditions.

Here are his top plays for Saturday:

Best Bets for Murray Bridge by Heath Pope 14/6/25

Race 1 #4 Hypernova $7.00

We were with Hypernova last start when he simply conceded too much ground before working home into the placings late.

His first-up run prior was enormous, storming home over 900m behind Grand Host, clearly superior form to what most of these bring.

Loves the big open spaces at Murray Bridge, with 4 placings from 4 runs here, and notably won his only previous third-up attempt.

Stepping to 1100m looks ideal, and the early each-way odds are overs.

He should be at least half his current price.

Rated Price: $3.75

Bet: Each-way

Race 5 #8 Winning Revolution $15.00

Super honest and underrated 5YO who continues to fly under the radar.

His first two runs this prep were excellent, rattling off the second fastest last 400m sectionals of the day both times.

Last start was again charging home, but struck trouble late and was arguably unlucky not to score.

Always goes around over the odds compared to his performances, and this is another good opportunity at double figures.

Rated Price: $8.00

Bet: Each-way

Surprise Coming Tipped Horse

Race 8 #6 Surprise Coming $7.50

Much better horse than his record suggests; bad luck has plagued much of his career.

Don’t forget, this is the horse that ran a luckless second to Griff before he won a Caulfield Guineas.

Last start he was 3-wide no cover at Sandown but fought bravely to salute.

Before that, he wasn’t far off Regal Azmon after covering more ground than the early settlers.

Back to his home track, maps well for once, and is a serious player at each-way odds in an open race.

Rated Price: $6.00

Bet: Each-way

Race 10 #7 High On Sugar $6.00

Ultra-consistent gelding with 8 quinella finishes from 17 starts.

First-up effort had merit after racing wide without cover, and he was then freshened and trialled strongly before an unlucky last-start fourth.

He was held up badly late and went to the line untested, clearly indicating he has returned in fine form this prep.

Maps to get an ideal run on leaders’ backs, and with even luck, looks like a genuine winning hope.

Rated Price: $5.00

Bet: Each-way
