This year's edition of the Rubiton Stakes has an abundance of early speed engaged, with many of the fast horses drawn wide.

Expect them to burn early to sort out their positions, before attempting to come up for air throughout the mid-stages. 

I am with one who should find cover in the moving line, a position which will suit given the expected warp speed tempo in the race.

 Racing Market Movers

Race favourite Anaheed has been very well supported after opening $4.80 to now trade at $3.80.

Wagner has softened a touch, out to $11.00 from $9.00.

All other runners remain steady.

 

 Key Runners

#1 Admiral's Joker $15

Loves it first-up (4:2-2-0) and showed enough last prep to deserve a chance at Group 2 level here. 

He still has to make the leap in grade and whilst he could sprint well fresh, I have a few ahead of him. Prefer others. 

 

#2 Wild Planet  $11

Has been off the scene for a long time now (39 weeks) and it is very interesting to see him entered here first-up in good grade.

He did win the Scone Guineas and the stable do have a very high opinion of the horse.

#3 All Too Royal  $6.50

Was unsuited by the slow tempo last start at Flemington and can easily bounce back to winning form in this.

He was excellent two starts back here at Caulfield, when he sat wide and still proved far too good. 

The last start Flemington straight effort is a complete forget run, as the slow speed was farcical.

He can find an ideal position in the moving line on this occasion and must go on top.  

 

#4 Bold Star $7.00 

Won well last start, when he was suited by the slow tempo and was favourably positioned to strike from the front. 

I believe he was flattered by that win and this race is a completely different set-up. 

He does draw well in gate 4 and can run well if they overdo it up front. 

 

#5 Age Of Chivalry $5.00

Has a touch of quality after placing 3 of 18 at Group 1 level in the Toorak Handicap to round out last preparation. 

There is plenty of speed engaged here, however I expect that he can race close in the moving line.

Just needs a touch of luck to find cover through the mid-stages and could be the one. Leading chance.  

 

#6 Runson $21 

Loves to lead and dictate, however he will face significant pressure from a number of speed horses drawn wide and keen to cross him.

I doubt he has the ability to soak up the pressure on this occasion, where from gate 1 he is likely to be crossed and buried three back along the rail. No.  

 

#7 Wagner $9.00> $11.00

Is from the powerful Godolphin yard, where any strong late push in betting has been very accurate recently. 

However, the concern here is that he has been soft in early markets. If he drifts further, it would indicate he is not ready yet. Avoid.  

 

#8 Sartorial Splendor $8.50

Will charge across from the outside ally in gate 10, in what is likely to be a lead at all costs mission.

The stable were confident to run in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at his last start and that indicates he has plenty of ability.

He looks a very interesting runner and could surprise a few of the older horses here. Include. 

 

#9 Causeway Girl  $14

Went very close to pinching it at Flemington two starts back and raced well at her latest when placing 3 of 12 at Flemington.  

Damien Oliver is an interesting booking here, as he usually has a few to choose from.

If they go warp speed up front, she could well be the one storming home over the top. 

 

#10 Anaheed $4.80 > $3.80

Must be showing the Snowden camp plenty at home and has been smashed in early betting for this ($4.80 into $3.80).

She oozes class following a Group 1 placing in the Manikato Stakes last preparation, and is already a Group 2 winner on two occasions. 

When the money comes for horses from this yard, it pays to follow. If there was another strong push late, expect her to win. Yes.
