Ride Of The Day 

JAMIE KAH

Apologies to Willie Pike who put on a master class in the Caulfield Guineas on Ole Kirk, but Jamie Kah’s ride on Mr Quickie to win the Toorak Handicap was superb.

Her soft hands helped him to jump better than he usually does and as a result, he took up a closer position.

Kah saved ground throughout the run and then pushed him out at the top of the straight and took the gap between Achernar Star and Sircconi to run down Buffalo River.

PERSONAL

She looks an ideal VRC Oaks candidate after running home strongly for second behind Odeum at her third run in the Thousand Guineas.

She ran nine metres further than the winner Odeum and will be hard to hold out at her next start.

 

BUFFALO RIVER

Really brave run to lead and hold on to second in the Toorak Handicap, which confirmed he’s a Group One horse.

 

AGE OF CHIVALRY

It wasn’t a day for horses sitting wide and few sat wider than him in the Toorak Handicap, where he covered 15 metres more than the winner.

CHAPADA

Mike Moroney is a master trainer of stayers and he’s always had a big opinion of this galloper. who couldn’t have been more impressive winning the Herbert Power Stakes.

He’ll be in the finish of the Caulfield Cup with only 50.5kg.

 

Sectional Stars 

ARCADIA QUEEN

Showed she was back to her best with a sizzling last 200m at the end of a 2000m race of 11.43 seconds, which was easily the fastest of the day.

She’s on track for the Cox Plate.

 

SWATS THAT

Quality three-year-old filly, who recorded the third fastest last 200m for the meeting with a 11.51 seconds last 200m.

 

MUNTASEERA

Another high class filly.

She recorded the third fastest last 400m for the meeting of 22.42 seconds and then matched Swats That’s last 200m of 11.51 seconds.

 

DIRTY WORK

Fastest last 400m for the meeting (22.02 seconds) and second fastest last 200m (11.49 seconds).

 

Forgive File

ANAMOE

Held up early in the straight when going easily and forced back to close to last.

Flew home when in the clear to finish fifth.

 

LYRE

She’s a repeat offender in this category, but surely luck must go her way at some stage.

She was travelling well when forced to go back to the inside and then was held up. Only beaten 1.15 lengths.

Danny O’Brien on Russian Camelot: 

“Obviously we were hoping that he’d be the winner, but he’s been beaten by an exceptional performance from Arcadia Queen. She was comprehensively better than him today."

“We certainly wouldn’t be making any excuses. Hoping that maybe when we get to Moonee Valley that the race will have a bit more pressure in it. Our guy might be looking for a bit further now. Full credit to the winner, she’s gone super and we just weren’t good enough.”

 

Matthew Williams on Gailo Chop and Harbour Views: 

“They had every chance, the pair of them, really. The tempo was there to suit both horses.”

“I just question whether Gailo Chop runs the 2000 metres at this level and the 1800 metres might be his ideal trip.”

“He won’t run again until we take him to Perth where he’ll have the two runs over there and I’ll have to have a think about the other boy, what we do there.”

“He won’t be going to the Cox Plate, maybe more along the lines of a Ballarat Cup is where we might go. I’ll have a talk to Terry (Henderson) and the OTI crew and see what they want to do.”

 

Peter Moody on Platinum Invader and In Good Health:

Platinum Invader: “Very good. Closed well late. I’m not sure where we’ll go, maybe Geelong or something like that. He’s still in the Melbourne Cup and that’s what the boys sent him over for.”

“It was encouraging to see him finish off. We know they’re probably a peg below the top ones.”

In Good Health: “She didn’t run the trip out. Luke (Nolen) gave her a wonderful ride in front. We’ll probably come back to a mile or a mile-and-a-quarter race at Flemington during the carnival.”

Orderofthegarter: “I just think he struggled at the mile-and-a-half to be fair. He just raced a little fierce and didn’t run out the trip.”

Miami Bound: “She’s struggling to take the step up against the open age horses to be fair. She’s going as well as she can, but is not quite up to this level.”

 

Simon Zahra on Age Of Chivalry: 

“The other day, if you did the splits on the sectional he did a lot of work earlier than everything else. We were confident that this was his race this time and - if he draws a gate - he pushes them.”

“We were rapt. The horse is going bloody terrific. Good to see that he got the mile ok and with that run under his belt, he’ll improve.”

 

Tom Dabernig on Personal and Aidensfield: 

Personal: “She got pushed a bit wide on the turn but she did finish it off well. If she pulls up well we might press on towards the Oaks. She relaxed and hit the line strong, so it is worth some thought.”

Aidensfield: “She looked like she didn’t quite run the mile. We might look at a 1400m race during Flemington, or she might have had enough. We’ll have a think about things.”

“He’s just about to start hitting his peak form. I would suggest he’s worth following.” 

Craig Williams on Buffalo River: 

“He’s big, he’s powerful. I guess he felt the upgrade of the track. That was a little bit against him.” 

“He ran his heart out. It’s a high grade he’s been up against, managed it and got beaten by a bloody good horse on his day, and he still ran second in a Group 1 Toorak. Credit to his trainer. He did a good job today and tried hard.”

 

Brett Prebble on Lunar Fox: 

“Super. We were going for the 18 (1800) and we had to scratch. We put the side winkers on him and threw the ball at the stumps and he ran an incredible fifth.” 

“He’s probably just looking for the extra distance. He’s got the sharpness out of his legs and he’s going along like a nice stayer.”

 

Damien Oliver on Mo’unga: 

“I thought he ran well. He’s going to be a really nice horse next preparation with a bit of give in the ground.”

 

Ben Hayes on Aysar: 

“Damian rode him absolutely fantastic. Looked the winner three times in the straight. I thought he ran a huge race.”

“The winner is obviously a very good horse - a Group 1 winner last start. Just shown he’s up to that class and proven that he’s a really quality colt. I think he’ll have his turn.”

“Really impressed by her performance. Just her run style makes it difficult for her. She ran extremely well in this grade and she’ll be winning a Group 1 shortly.”

“He switched off good and he’s probably looking for a 2400 metres race or 2500 metres, but they’re pretty impressive those first two though.”
