Run over 1600m at the home of the Cox Plate, the Group Two Feehan Stakes has produced such champions as Whobegotyou, Northerly and Sunline.
The Feehan Stakes has also proven a strong form line for many Melbourne Cup contenders, including runners up Makybe Diva (2004, 2005) and Green Moon (2012) as well as Fiorente who won the 2013 edition of the race. All three of these runners went onto win Australia's most famous race after putting in strong performances in the Feehan Stakes.
Nineteen horses have been nominated for the 2019 Feehan Stakes, with the Lloyd Williams owned Yucatan and Homesman the most likely runners on a Melbourne Cup path.
All-in betting has the Group One Underwood Stakes winner, Homesman as the early favourite.
The son of War Front went on to run second in the Caulfield Cup last year and now resumes here for his first-up run in after a 314 days spell.
Team Hayes and Dabernig have nominated their star miler, Fifty Stars. The winner of the Group Two Ajax Stakes over 1500m and the Group Two Blamey Stakes over 1600m, ticks plenty of boxes and is proven to perform well second-up.
A runner of note, include Yucatan, the dominant winner of the Group Two Herbert Power. Yucatan returns from a spell, after running 11th as favourite in the 2018 Melbourne Cup.
The Chris Waller trained Yulong Prince, is a runner who could surprise at big odds. Granted his first Australian run was only fair, he'll take huge improvement from that run and can jump out of the ground now he strips fitter.
