Best bets at Caulfield

 AAP

Caulfield plays host to a competitive nine-race card this Saturday, with the rail situated in the true position for the entire circuit and the track currently rated a Soft 6.

A further 6-15mm of rain is forecasted for race day, which will likely push the track into the Heavy range.

Expect on-pace runners to have an early advantage, before the track starts to chop up. Look for back-markers and horses who can find the better ground out wide to be favoured late in the day.

Caulfield Race 1 Tip #8 Hard Press $15.00

The son of Shamexpress was tipped up at big odds by theGreatTipOff.com form analyst Ben Beare before his debut.

While punters didn't get the chocolates on that occasion, the colt went straight into the black book.

After jumping from barrier 16 and being caught four-wide the entire journey, he ran home strongly and chased hard through the line to narrowly miss the placings.

The third-place runner from that race, Rumble Doll, has recently since franked that form with a dominant 3.75-length win over the 1000m at Sandown.

The extra 200m here will suit him down to the ground and with good speed drawn around him, he'll be able to tag the leaders and sit a few pairs back with cover.

From there, look for this exciting colt to charge home late and get punters off to the best possible start.

Caulfield Race 3 Tip #2 Persuader $7.50

Returns to her home track coming off a huge effort when up in grade last start, running 2.85-lengths behind the talented Gytrash down the Flemington straight.

Dropping back to a 3yo handicap here, she'll carry 55kg after the claim for apprentice Lachlan King. This is 2kg less than her last start in Listed grade.

Two starts back, she proved she was more than up to this grade by running an impressive second behind the smart Asgard Massif over this track and distance.

The gap back to third was two lengths, which suggests she was a class above her rivals on that occasion.

The form from that race has been franked with the fifth-place runner, Bianconni Magic, lugging 59kg in a dominant victory at Pekenham in a BM70 last Friday night.

From the soft draw in barrier two, look for King to take a sit one pair off the speed before producing a strong sustained sprint off the home turn to fight out the finish.
