This year's edition of the Australian Oaks features a verry dominant filly who should just win.

It appears many of the quality fillies have dodged this race and you can be forgiven for expecting the favourite to give nothing else a chance.

Tread carefully however, as the distance and a rain-affected surface can throw a spanner in the works.

Something could just sprout wings here. Punters beware. 

 

 Race Randwick Track Traits

Randwick is currently rated a Soft 5 with the rail out 3m the entire circuit and fine conditions expected on Saturday.

The surface chopped out last week along the inside and in particular from the 800m-600m marks.

This should again favour those drawn wider late in the day.

As always, a close watch of early racing is advised to determine the presence of track bias.

Race favourite Verry Elleegant remains firm in early betting ($1.80 into $1.70).

Whilst Scarlet Dream ($15 to $18) and Aliferous ($17 to $21) both ease slightly.

#1 Verry Elleegant $1.80 > $1.70

Gun mare who has dominated all the key lead up races, including the latest Group 1 Vinery Stakes where she gave nothing else a chance.

She appears to handle all conditions and even when over-racing, has the ability to win.

This race presents as hers for the taking and she must go on top.

#2  Aristia $8

Is the most genuine stayer in this field and if they were to go warp speed, she would be the one.

Last start in the Vinery was good, when she kept on grinding away to finish third.

Will need the speed right on and can get home hard.

A must include in multiples. 

 

#3 Frankely Awesome $6 

Was scratched from the Derby for this and that may have been the shrewd play, considering the testing track at Randwick last week.

She was excellent at her latest when she finished 2 of 11 behind Verry Elleegant in the Vinery.

Just needs the speed on to run home hard over the top. Yes. 

 

#6 Aliferous $17 > $21 

Interesting runner who won the Group 2 Adrian Knox here last start, after coming via the bush circuit with a win at Tamworth.

She looks outclassed against most of these and the early betting ($17 to $21) says No.   

  

#7 Scarlet Dream $15 > $18  

Is lightly raced (6:2-2-1) and could surprise a few of the more fancied runners here.

The Vinery run was ok, when she was crowded early and had excuses before finishing 7 of 11.

If the money came late, it would pay to follow. Yes.
