Best Plays for Caulfield Cup Day

The Caulfield carnival concludes on Saturday, with a huge 10 race card dished up for punters.

The Caulfield Cup highlights a cracking day of racing, with a further five Group races scheduled across the day.

The track is currently rated a Good 4 and with some showers predicted on Thursday and Saturday in Melbourne, we could see the track downgraded into the Soft range.

The rail is situated in the true position for the entire circuit and at this set-up, the track should play fair.

Best Bet from Michael Gannon

Caulfield Race 3 Tip #2 Osamu $3.50

I'm keen on the maiden runner from the Waller stable here.

He's been running against some classy three-year-old's in Sydney and has found a very winnable race on Saturday.

He has an abundance of early speed and I suspect that from barrier 1, he'll go forward and make every post a winner.

If he was ever going to run out the 1400m, it'll be fifth-up with fitness on his side. The Caulfield 1400m suits his racing pattern and there is no doubt he'll take plenty of running down.

Given his maiden status and the fact that this is his first crack over 1400m, there is a fair chance he'll drift late in the betting. I suggest waiting until Saturday, when I expect us to get closer to $5.

Caulfield Race 6 Tip #3 Fituese $2.90

This girl looks close to the best bet across the country.

Her first-up win was awesome and the gap between runs is sure to suit this mare.

She is a Listed winner with huge upside.

Her career record of 9:6-1-0 and 1100m record of 3:3-0-0 speak volumes of her ability, but I think she's set to go to a new level on Saturday.

Craig Williams jumps aboard and from barrier 8, has a few options. She's a versatile horse who can sit on or off-pace, so it'll be up to Craig on whether she takes a sit or rolls forward from the gates.

Either way with a smart ride, I see only one outcome and that's a dominant display from the best horse in the race.
