Queensland Oaks tips
Queensland Oaks Race Information
Queensland Oaks
The Queensland Oaks is the Sunshine State's premier staying event for fillies. While the distance of the race changes depending on what Brisbane track it's run at, the 2019 edition will be contested over 2200 metres at Doomben Racecourse.
Inaugurated in 1951, the Queensland Oaks has for most of its existence been run at a mile and a half or 2400 metres at Eagle Farm racecourse. However, due to track refurbishments and subsequent problems with the Eagle Farm turf, the 2015, 2017 and 2018 editions were all run at Doomben.
As the 2400 metres distance range is not suitable for the smaller Doomben track, the race gets revised down by a furlong. Nevertheless, this still poses a tough test of stamina for the fillies.
Some great fillies have used the Queensland Oaks as a spring board onto a fantastic racing career over the years. Evening Peal, Surround, and Ethereal are just three of the horses who won the Queensland Oaks before going on to bigger and better things.
But no horse has fit this pattern more than Winx. The mighty mare won the 2015 edition of the race, which was also the second win in what would become her incredible 33-race winning streak.
Speaking of Winx, her trainer Chris Waller has a superb record in the race of late. He has won three of the previous four editions.
The Queensland Oaks is also a race where punters have had a good record in recent times. Since 2011, every winner of the race has started in single-figure odds.
