Bondi Stakes Race Information
Bondi Stakes
The Bondi Stakes is another of the brand-new feature races that will be debuted in the Spring Carnival of 2019. Held over the famous mile at Randwick Racecourse, the Bondi Stakes is a race for three-year-olds, and will be inaugurated on Saturday 26th of October.
While the Bondi Stakes is open to three-year-olds from around the country, the idea behind the race is to keep Sydney's top young horses racing at home, rather than have them travelling down to Melbourne or heading off to stud. The big prize purse of a million dollars will help ensure that this is the case.
Speaking of prize money, the Bondi Stakes is one of a series of million-dollar-plus races that take place over nine consecutive Saturdays during the Sydney Spring Carnival. The Bondi Stakes also sits on the Saturday between the Everest and the Golden Eagle meets, ensuring that the momentum is carried over between these three weekends.
What's clear is that Racing NSW have thrown a lot of money at the Sydney racing scene, hoping to end the Victorian dominance during the Spring Carnival. But because all of the new races have a strong concept behind them, fans of the sport aren't being left behind, with most excited by these new and innovative races.
Horse racing fans will be especially pleased to see another feature race over the 1,600 course at Randwick. Some argue that this is the best and fairest mile start at any track in Australia, with the long run down the back straight giving every jockey a chance to find a good spot before their horses hit the first bend.
While the Bondi Stakes will likely never rival the Cox Plate that is held on the same day down in Melbourne, it's sure to be a cracking 3YO contest for years to come.
