Jockey could give Bella the blues

The final Group 1 of the 2023/24 season is the Tattersall’s Tiara which takes place this Saturday at Eagle Farm.
This year's event is a belter with a competitive lineup of fillies and mares competing for the $700,000 prize pool, headlined by the bombproof Bella Nipotina.
Fresh off an agonising second in the Stradbroke she will look to go one better and claim her second Group 1 success of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
As for her rivals, The Dane Ripper Stakes has been the customary precursor to the Tiara and was recently claimed by C’est Magique.
A new addition to the Chris Waller stable, this mare will look to emulate Invincibella's 2019 achievement by securing the Dane Ripper Stakes and Tattersall’s Tiara double.
Local talent has dominated the last two editions of the Tiara, and this year's hopes rest on Comrade Rosa, Bubble Rock, Abounding, and Miss Joelene.

With a lack of genuine pace this race could throw up a few curve balls.
Runners may opt for positive intent rather than their regular settling positions.
C’Est Magique led throughout to win the Dane Ripper so it's likely similar tactics will be used.
Opal Ridge and Semana both have the ability to sit handy in the run and I doubt connections will want them burried along the rail in traffic.
Zoe’s Promise has previously won at this track and distance previously from a leading position, so they may push the button early and try to cross.
The biggest question and something that most of us will be trying to figure out, what does favourite Bella Nipotina do from the carpark?
In the ideal world she lands in the three wide moving line, but with such little pace expected to be injected she could get caught four and five deep into the first bend.
The Favourite
Bella Nipotina already has one hand on the trophy, the other is dependent on two things.
The first is Ryan Maloney. It's fair to say that the past racing season has been a mixed bag for Ryan.
After racing in QLD for the majority of his career he decided to try crack the NSW racing ranks and was quickly shown to be a tier below the top level.
This isn't to detract from his riding as he is very capable, but when push came to shove it was JMac, Timmy Clark and the gun group of NSW apprentices who triumphed.
He has returned north and has hit form once again. This is a clear reward for his effort, and he knows the Eagle Farm track better than anyone.
Just needs some luck early to claim a Group 1.
Lastly the barrier. Bella's rivals will be all switched on to the poor barrier draw she is jumping from and they will be there to make life as difficult as possible.

Tips
Roll On High ($11.00) is the runner I want to play.
While Bella Nipotina might be well and truly too good for her rivals, I can't accept $2 from barrier 17.
Roll On High was brilliant when winning the Fred Best at this track and trip two back when storming home over the top of Stradbroke winner Stefi Magnetica.
He had no such luck himself in the Straddie when caught in a massive traffic jam on the corner.
He was forced off the track and set an impossible task to win.
It was a complete forgive effort and a replication of his first run at Eagle Farm has him right in contention.
He looks the best value in the race.

Bella Nipotina ($2.00) while you can't possibly back her at the price she looks awfully hard to beat.
A sensational campaign which has taken her across 4 states will be culminated here.
This would be the cherry on top for connections.
Next, I’m going with Semana ($15.00) who is such an underrated mare.
She just kept turning up last campaign in Sydney and was arguably unlucky to be denied more Group race success with multiple placings.
Regular jockey Dylan Gibbons travels north for the ride and she is set to get a good track where her peak runs have come on.
Finally, for roughie and longshot followers.
Lekvarte ($34.00) appears well over the odds from a soft draw of barrier 7.
She badly missed the kick when first up and left herself too big of a task.
She rises in distance, flies second up and will thrive getting back onto a good surface.
Reece Jones travels north to take the ride and don't be surprised to see her growing wings over the concluding stages.
1st Roll On High
2nd Bella Nipotina
3rd Semana
4th Lekvarte
Tip: Roll On High each-way & a speck on Lekvarte
