Metro racing makes a welcome return to the wide expanses of Murray Bridge this Saturday with a competitive program set to unfold.

The track is currently rated a Soft 7, but with clear weather predicted in the lead-up, expect a steady improvement in conditions.

This should push us towards the Soft 5/6 range come race day.

The rail moves out +3m from the 1200m chute, with the remainder true, suggesting a fair surface early before wider lanes become preferred as the day wears on.

As always, Heath Pope has done the form thoroughly and identified a few standout chances worth following.

These include a progressive mare ready to peak third-up, a strong each-way play at juicy odds and a proven fresh performer who loves this circuit.

Best Bets for Murray Bridge from Heath Pope 2/8/25

Race 3 #4 SWYCHO $3.80

This Michael Hickmott-trained mare brings strong credentials into this 1600m contest.

Her last-start effort was full of merit, pressured up front and still beaten just over a length in a fast-run affair.

She now drops in grade, carries 4kg less after the claim and maps ideally to stalk the likely leader Thermodynamic.

Third-up and ready to peak, she has placed in two of three Soft track runs and looks set to capitalise in a race that lacks early pressure.

At $3.50 or better, she’s a confident play to start the day on the front foot.

Race 4 #5 BELLAKAI $8.00

Forgive the last-start failure.

Bellakai was backed into favouritism and performed well below expectations, but that effort was simply too bad to be true.

Her previous form lines stack up well against stronger company, and the drop back to 2000m is key.

She’s been struggling to run out 2400m, so this distance is much more suitable and she gets the in-form Toeroek on board.

Back on a Soft track with a more manageable trip, she can bounce back sharply.

Rated $4.50, she represents great each-way value.

Race 5 #8 DANCING STORM $5.00

A first-up specialist, Dancing Storm has never missed the placings fresh (4:1-2-1) and returns here in a winnable assignment.

He’s shown a liking for both this track and soft conditions and boasts a strong effort last prep when narrowly beaten by the smart Bakeel.

His tactical versatility and proven fresh form make him a genuine contender again here and from a good draw, he should settle handy and launch late.

Another solid each-way play around the $4.50 mark.
