Over the past few weeks, the Victorian metro program has offered great value, but this Saturday's meeting at Flemington has favourite backers licking their lips.

This weekend six out of nine races have runners priced at $2.60 or lower, with four of them being odds-on.

For someone who looks for value, it was a tricky card to dissect with fewer options than usual, but two plays look clear standouts.

The track is currently a Soft 5 but with the weather in Melbourne staying dry and how well the Flemington track drains, it should end up as a Good 4.

The running rail is back in the True position and should see the track play fairly to all runners.

Let’s take a look at this Saturday’s best bets!

Flemington Race 8 #2 Duke De Sessa $6.50

This 5yo U.K. import resumes for his third racing preparation in Australia and looks to have come back in terrific order from his Gelding operation.

He's had a soft jump-out performance, where he was asked for very little and just cruised to the line.

This was followed by a superb trial victory at Bendigo, where he blew his rivals away to win comfortably.

He has been competitive at the top Weight-For-Age Group 1 level including solid runs in the Doncaster Mile, Turnbull Stakes and Caulfield Cup.

Granted he should find being in a Listed company race far easier.

Ciaron Maher is one of the best trainers in the country at having his horses prepared to fire first-up, but especially with staying imports resuming at a middle-distance range.

He gets the right jockey on for the job in John Allen and should have this 5yo gelding thundering home down the middle of the track.

Flemington Race 9 #2 Fleetwood $4.40

He was a moral beaten last week from making it 3-straight wins after missing the start by 5 lengths and finishing 3rd.

Comes into this run on the 7-day back-up and was in superb form before his mishap last Saturday.

He faces a sharp up-and-comer here from the Ciaron Maher stable in ‘Pharari’, who has won his two starts this campaign by a combined 13.8 lengths, but there is enough to suggest that this Cummings-trained 3yo can knock off the odds-on favourite.

Jockey Luke Nolen will look to settle ‘Fleetwood’ right behind ‘Pharari’ and get the final crack at it when peeling off his back.

The odds-on favourite has never been out to the 1200m before and might be vulnerable to run over the top in the last 100m.

He will appreciate the drop in weight here and can bounce back into the winner's circle.
