The first Group 1 meeting in Victoria is upon us, setting the stage for a thrilling Spring Racing Carnival.

While the spotlight will be firmly on the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, the entire race card is brimming with talent.

After a successful week with ‘Mornington Glory’ saluting, I’m aiming to continue the winning streak this Saturday.

Caulfield Race 1 #3 Sassy Boom $4.40

This 4-year-old mare by Spirit of Boom has already attracted some support, and it wouldn’t surprise me if she becomes a strong contender for favouritism.

Returning from a spell, she has established herself as a top-class mare with a Group 2 win at this track and distance in the Autumn.

Her return from a break has been promising, with two impressive jumpouts resulting in finishes of 1st and 2nd at Flemington and Kilmore.

She will be partnered with top jockey Blake Shinn, who has been in sensational form with a 26.8% strike rate over the past month.

Given the lack of pace in the race, I expect her to find the front and lead comfortably.

If she manages to get the lead and dictate terms as anticipated, I don’t see her being run down.

Caulfield Race 10 #2 Another Wil $2.80

I usually avoid horses priced under $3.00 as best bets, but with a better draw, this horse would be much shorter.

This lightly-raced 5-year-old gelding announced himself as a potential star last Autumn, winning his first three races by a combined 11.3 lengths before a dominant performance in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude.

He then tackled the Group 1 Doncaster as the favourite, finishing a commendable 7th behind some genuine stars.

He has a strong fresh record (2:1-1-0) and remains unbeaten on a dry surface.

Despite the wide draw, he has some on-pace runners drawn just inside of him, which Jamie Kah can use to navigate across and find cover.

If he gets the right run, I expect him to dominate and establish himself as a serious Spring contender.
