Black-type racing returns to Caulfield this Saturday, with the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes over 1400m.
The meeting also hosts two Group 3 contests for 3YOs:
- Vain Stakes for colts and geldings
- Quezette Stakes for fillies.
Both of this week’s best bets come in the black-type races.
The track is currently rated a Good 4, which is expected to hold through Saturday with fine weather forecast.
The running rail is out 9m, having previously been out 4m.
We expect the track to race fairly, with the MRC consistently producing a surface that gives every runner a chance.
After Mornington Glory’s massive win last week, where we secured $4.60 odds before it was crunched into $2.80 on race day, we’re looking to deliver another profitable result with this week’s best bets.
Caulfield Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets
Cody Lane continues to find value amongst his best bets.
Caulfield Race 6 #1 Drifting $4.00
A smart daughter of Zousain, Drifting returns to the track this Saturday after a terrific first campaign as a 2YO.
After winning on debut at Hawkesbury, she gave a strong challenge to the talented ‘Bold Bastille’ up the Flemington straight over 1000m second-up.
Her final two runs of last preparation saw her win the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill over 1200m before finishing 7th, just 2.5 lengths off ‘Eneeza’ and Golden Slipper winner ‘Lady Of Camelot’ in the Group 2 Percy Sykes.
Now a 3YO, Drifting looks to have returned well from a spell.
She had a solid trial win at Warwick Farm and a second placing in a jump-out behind the talented ‘Arkansaw Kid’ at Flemington.
Drawn perfectly in barrier 3 with top jockey Blake Shinn on board, she should land on the fence right behind the speed.
With even luck, I expect her to win this and kick off her 3YO campaign in style.
Caulfield Race 7 #8 Arkansaw Kid $3.60
Returning from a spell, this 4YO also comes back after the ultimate gear change. The gelding operation.
Early signs suggest it’s worked, as he won impressively at his only jump-out leading into this first-up run at Flemington.
He boasts elite form lines from last preparation and has been competitive at Group 1 level on multiple occasions.
Both of his career wins have come in Listed grade, which he resumes in on Saturday.
The race looks like it will pan out perfectly for him from barrier 2.
He’ll need a touch of luck in the run, but the likely strong tempo in front should allow for some gaps in the field. Jockey Luke Currie can use to get this 4YO into the race.
Arkansaw Kid loves racing at this track, with 3 runs for a win and two placings, and I expect he can add another victory to that record here.
He’s a class above this lot and should have lengths on them.
