Rosehill Tips for the Golden Rose Stakes 2023

History suggests that there’s one race that provides the best guide to the Group 1 Golden Rose set to be run at Rosehill on Saturday.

Eight of the past 11 Golden Rose winners have come through the Run To The Rose, won by CYLINDER this year.

His trainer, James Cummings, has won the race twice. He trained winner HALLOWED CROWN with his legendary grandfather, Bart, in 2014 and then BIVOUAC in 2019 on his own.

Both of those runners were ridden by Hugh Bowman.

With Bowman in Melbourne on Saturday, Cummings has opted for Nash Rawiller to pilot the gun colt.

This trainer/jockey combination boasts a strike rate of 21% and if you’d backed every horse that Cummings and Rawiller have joined forces on, you’d be up around 19% on your turnover.

Then she was 3 wide no cover around The Valley last time out and still produced a rating that was similar to the Run To The Rose.

The 1400m is a query, but gate 1 gives her a soft run and is there a jockey riding better than D Lane at the moment?

Ran a career peak in the Golden Slipper and it was a high rating edition of the 2YO classic.

The market will be the best guide and he maps to get back and wide. However, the class is well and truly there plus his trials have been superb.

You get the feeling he might be special.

 

 1. Militarize (10)

Eight of the last 11 Golden Rose winners have come through the Run To The Rose and this guy recorded the best last 200m of the race.

That effort ranked 4th for the entire day which demands respect.
