The Group 1 Golden Slipper is the headline act at Rosehill on Saturday.

Punters are salivating as 16 of our best 2YO gallopers go toe-to-toe competing for a huge $5 million in prize money.

Previous winners of the great race include Pierro (2012), Sebring (2008) and who can forget Belle Du Jour (2000).

Track Conditions

The track is rated a Soft 6 as of Wednesday afternoon, and is expected to improve throughout the week.

The rail is out 2m the entire, at this set up the track should play fair.

From the 1200m start on-pace runners and those who can find the rail are at an advantage.

Race 8 - Golden Slipper (1200m)

The Map - 9 of the last 11 Slipper winners have settled in the top 6!

Blink and you'll miss them.

Red Resistance (17), Facile (16) and Exploring (13) will all be marked urgent from wide draws.

That leaves a big question mark over Steel City (15). I'm not sure getting in a speed battle with those runners and being caught 4 or 5 wide is her go. They may ride her for luck and try to slot into the running line behind the leading brigade.

Drawn ideally are Cylinder (3) and Learning To Fly (4), who can sit on pace for the perfect run in transit.

Don Corleone (6) and King's Gambit (7) will both be afforded great runs in transit as well.

Shinzo (1) is the one who will get the Fireburn 2022 run along the inside, so don't be surprised to he him flying up the rail late.

The Favourite

Cylinder is a deserved favourite and is set to peak on Saturday.

The only worry is that his two wins have been very straightforward and in small fields.

Saturday will be a different beast, but from what we've seen to date, he should acquit himself well.

He maps a treat and is the one to beat.

History/Key Form-lines

  • 9 of the past 11 winners have debuted before Christmas
  • 7 of the past 11 runners have settled on the fence in run
  • 9 of the past 11 winners have come through the Toddman or Reisling

Best Racing Tips

1st Learning To Fly, is unbeaten which means we're yet to see her ceiling.

Her career peak of 99.5 came on debut suggesting she's been held back a little in preparation for Grand Final Day.

She maps a treat, is a versatile galloper and has proven she can overcome trouble in the run.

That's the type of horse I want to be with in a Slipper.

2nd Cylinder has won well at both starts this prep, running a career peak of 101 last start.

He too has upside, draws to land on the rail for the run of the race and is a clear second pick.

3rd Don Corleone only needed some luck to win the Blue Diamond when running a career peak of 98.7.

He's proven to handle high-pressure racing and has shown the ability to overcome adversity in his races.

He can be right there in the finish.

4th King's Gambit is the query runner.

His career peak of 101.7 has him right in contention, but his subsequent tuns haven't been great.

Team Snowden will have him ready to peak on Saturday.
