It’s not every week you unearth genuine talent on a winter Saturday, but that’s exactly what unfolded at Rosehill over the weekend.

Mick Gannon has identified a handful of runners to keep on your radar moving forward.

Horses that either defied race shape, showed progression, or confirmed they are well above the grades they competed in.

Here are this week’s blackbookers:

Race 1 – Raging Force

It’s rare for an off-season 2YO race to throw up one of the most impressive juvenile wins of the year, but Raging Force delivered just that.

Carrying 59kg, he absolutely dominated from the front, putting a space on his rivals in a 2.2 length victory.

He’s a classy type with natural speed and strength, and there’s plenty more to come.

Follow with confidence.

Race 3 – Donwon

Caught wide throughout and working against the pattern of the day, Donwon showed real grit to hold on for third place.

It was a tough effort under the circumstances, and he looks like a horse building towards a win.

With the right run in a similar grade, particularly in a Midway Handicap, he’s a genuine knockout hope.

Stick with him.

Race 10 – Brave One & Sacred Rocks

It was another blackbook double with Brave One delivering once again.

He did it the hard way, racing against the pattern and still proving too good in the run home.

He’s shown consistent progression and is clearly well above BM78 grade.

Sacred Rocks also caught the eye with another strong performance — this pair are well worth following deeper into the prep.

Both bring city-class credentials and could easily step through the grades.

Keep backing them as they rise.

Time to Say Goodbye – Kerguelen

After several opportunities, Kerguelen failed to fire with conditions to suit and is now scratched from the blackbook.

Time to move on.
