The feature Rosehill meeting delivered some high-class racing on a day where rails-in-run proved to be a major disadvantage.

Several gallopers were forced to race against the pattern of the day and still produced efforts worth noting.

Mick Gannon has identified two horses who can be followed with confidence going forward, especially when they strike more suitable race-day setups.

Race 3 – Oakfield Badger

Sent out at $15, Oakfield Badger ran a much better race than the market expected.

Finished a strong fourth after being locked on the inferior inside lanes throughout.

Forced to race up the inside lanes late, where few made ground all day.

He still attacked the line well and proved he can be competitive at this level.

He’s previously shown his capability in Midway grade.

With the right barrier and tempo next time over 1200m, he’ll be one to watch in two weeks' time.

Race 10 – First Person

This honest mare was brave in defeat after being forced to lead at a solid tempo from the inside draw.

Despite setting the race up for the swoopers, she held on strongly.

She was only run down late by a backmarker charging home from the better going.

It was her first time racing in this grade and she acquitted herself admirably.

With her proven ability on wet tracks and a more favourable map, she looks well placed to knock over a similar race soon.
