Saturday racing tips at Randwick by Josh Reed

 Steve Hart

The Randwick track is currently rated a Soft 5 for Saturday’s racing and should be upgraded to a Good surface by Saturday with the sunshine forecast in Sydney for the remainder of the week.

The rail is in the true position, so expect a slight advantage to those who have drawn the inside barriers.

Randwick Race 3

The fillies and mares are set to clash over the 1200m in the third race of the card, with three main players who are sure to fight it out up the straight.

Godolphin’s Street Cry runner, Savatiano, is coming off a strong run when leading at Scone to hang on for the win over 1300m. She drops back to a more suitable distance here in a bid to make it back-to-back wins.

Sasso Corbaro was quite disappointing at her last start. The Kris Lees trained filly drops back in grade in an experiment to get her back to winning ways.

Zonk led at her previous start and kicked away in the straight before being run down in the shadows of the post. She is dropping back in grade and will be fitter for her first-up appearance.

The mare by I Am Invincible has drawn well and will look to lead in a race that lacks speed.

Randwick Race 8

We are presented with a tough race to dissect over 1100m here, with some quality runners engaged. All of the key chances are coming from different form lines.

Patrick Payne has brought up the Turffontein gelding Widgee Turf, who is coming off a placing at Caulfield last month. He will need to overcome an awkward draw and handle the Sydney way of going to be a threat.

Pecans and To Excess are both coming off terrific last start wins over group and stakes level. It will be a sight to behold if both these runners bring their best form to Randwick on Saturday.

Perizada is stepping back in class and is very well weighted. She was run down late in the Wenona Girl Quality by smart mare Sugar Bella at her last outing and will be out to erase that memory with a peak performance.

Randwick Race 9

This is a nice race to finish off the day with the market pointing to three runners who met at Warwick Farm on May 9th.

Godolphin has two nice types by Lohnro engaged, who both fought out the finish at their most recent start. Beacon meets his stablemate Schubert better off at the weight for that run. They have both drawn poorly and will need luck in the straight to be competitive.

Fierce Impact from the Matthew Smith stable was luckless in the same race and by the time he got clear running it was too late. Although there isn’t an advantage at the weights for him this run, he has drawn better than his two rivals and with some luck will be fighting out the finish once again.

Randwick Tips

The tips below are three of my best selections at Randwick, including my top tips and best each-way play. If you would like to see all of my selections and staking plan for Saturday's meet at Randwick, you can access them here.

Race 3 Tip: #4 Zonk $3.40

Her last start was full of merit, leading and kicking up the straight before being run over late. She has a positive draw, drops back in grade and looks set to control the race before using her turn of foot to put them away.

Race 8 Tip: #11 Perizada $10

She was impressive running third in the Group 3 Winona Girl Quality before having a two month let-up. She is coming into this race fresh with an impressive first-up record.

She is well weighted for this race and though she has drawn awkwardly, if she gets some cover, she will be right in the finish.

Race 9 Tip: #11 Fierce Impact $6

His most recent effort was one to forget when slow to begin and held up in the vital stages. He has a better draw and will be fitter for his first-up run.

Providing he has luck in the straight, punters will be going home winners after the last at Randwick.
