Run over the famous Randwick Mile, the Chelmsford Stakes has a long list of decorated champions including the likes of Winx, Hartnell and Lonhro.
No less than 22 horses have been nominated for the 2019 edition of the Group Two clash.
The Godolphin owned Avilius is the top-rated runner and has opened as the $2.30 short-priced favourite in all-in betting.
The multiple Group One winner impressed first-up in the Winx Stakes over the 1400m at Randwick, when making up significant ground against an on-pace bias.
He's clearly suited by the rise in distance and with an impressive second-up record (4:3-0-1), he's a deserved favourite.
The Kris Lees trained Invincible Gem comes out of the same race, running an unlucky third after finishing a head in front of Avilius.
Samadoubt and Unforgotten sit on the third line of all-in betting, with the latter aiming for back-to-back Chelmsford Stakes wins.
There are two runners of note, both from the Chris Waller yard.
They include the Group One winner Youngstar, who strips fitter off his first-up run in the Winx Stakes and will relish the testing Randwick Mile.
The other nomination of note is Girl Tuesday. This mare by Street Cry has a great winning strike rate and appears to have recaptured her best form. While this is a huge step-up in grade, she has plenty of upside and could surprise a few at big odds.
