Randwick Horses To Follow from Saturday Racing 30/1/24

It was an interesting weekend of racing at Randwick with plenty of young stars returning to the track.

Mick Gannon has run his eyes over the replays and found some gems to throw into your blackbook.

They are worth following over their next coming starts.

 

 

Randwick Blackbookers

United States

Despite coming out of a moderately rated 2YO race, United States put in a performance that will be noticed by the market next time out.

His fastest last 200m of the meeting suggests that the 1000m trip was slightly too sharp, but he was powering through the line with plenty in reserve.

With natural improvement from that run, he looks well-placed to break through next start, particularly if he steps up in distance.

He will be hard to beat next time he steps out.

 

Nordic Viking

Another eye-catching runner from the same race, Nordic Viking, put in a strong finishing effort that suggests he’ll relish a rise in trip.

The So You Think colt is bred to improve over 1600m and beyond, and his late strength indicates he could develop into a quality staying type.

He’ll be one to watch over longer trips, where he’s likely to thrive.

 

Aligned

One to keep on the radar from the same event is Aligned, who made solid ground from the back in a race that was run at a slow tempo.

Given the way he finished off, he looks capable of picking up a win this preparation, especially as he steps up in trip and lands in a race with a stronger tempo.
