Mick Gannon's Blackbookers: Randwick Edition
Mick is keen on two runners who look set to go bang next time out.
Race 3 – Brave One
Brave One delivered a high-quality performance under circumstances that would’ve stopped most horses.
He sat three-wide without cover on-speed at an even tempo and still surged late — an enormous effort considering he was the only horse to win from lane 2 at the 600m all day.
His closing splits were impressive, producing the 7th fastest last 200m and 4th fastest last 100m of the entire meeting.
Blackbook Verdict: Progressive gelding with more to come. Follow with confidence through the grades.
Race 8 – It’s A Knockout
Resuming off a break, It’s A Knockout looked anything but underdone when sitting behind a strong tempo and unleashing late to win in stylish fashion.
The win rated among the best of the day, and she did it looking like there was more in the tank.
Given her yard typically improves second and third-up, expect this mare to go on with it now that she’s back in work.
Blackbook Verdict: First-up winner with more to give — stick with her for the prep.
