Morphettville Tips for Adelaide Cup 2024

It's a big day of racing in South Australia, with the annual running of the Group 2 Morphettville Adelaide Cup run over the Melbourne Cup distance of two miles (3200m).

With zero rainfall expected and temperatures in the mid to late 30’s, expect a lightning-fast surface.

Heath Pope Tips and Best Bets

#4 THE MAP marked on top at $4.50, however I couldn’t possibly come in at the opening price of $2.90.

Although he gives every indication the 3200m should be made to order, at the end of the day he is still unproven over this longer trip.

 

#1 AMADE was so game in this same race last year when placing 3rd and beaten just 1L despite covering ground the entire trip.

He only rises 1kg here, coming into this off the back of two solid placings.

He rates $5 so I must make an official play at the current $7.00.

 

#3 EXCELLERATION Rates $7.50.

Like many of his rivals, he is unproven over the longer 3200m.

He does however come into this off the back of two most impressive wins with the latest effort coming at the 2400m, which was only his first attempt past 2000m.

For that fact alone I have him marked at his right price and would need a much higher price to entertain investing.

 

#2 ALHAMBRA LAD Rates $9.

Blinkers off again.

Another that comes off a most encouraging runner-up effort behind Excelleration.

He is just one of many however with doubts over the distance.

He would need to drift markedly to warrant some support.

 

#6 GRAND PIERRO Rates $13.50.

Blinkers and visors off for the first time.

Honest grinding type that is also yet to race over the 3200m.

He is rarely too far away in his races however does suggest he may be suited.

Another that we currently have around the market opening price and would need to drift markedly to warrant support.

 

#10 TEAM CAPTAIN Rates $15.50 and clear best roughie with $41 currently available.

He was only beaten 3L in this same race last year when making up plenty of late ground.

His recent effort was not that bad under a big weight.

A must speck play at the big overs.
