Melbourne Cup Tips and Best Bets from Nick Quinn 2023

Simply Breath Taking

The Melbourne Cup has been challenging for punters in recent years with the last three winners paying $21, $18 and $26.
From 2006-2022 there has only been one winning favourite in the Melbourne Cup but I anticipate Vauban will change that this year.
In 2023 the race looks strong at the top, but with a long tail I anticipate that there are only a few winning chances.
Read on to get Nick Quinn's preview of the race that stops a nation. He drops his best top rated runners and there is plenty of value on offer.

My selections.
#5 Vauban
He was simply breath-taking winning at Royal Ascot and if he reproduces that performance he will win.
He will take luck out of the equation and be up on speed, there is no knock on him and happy to back him at about $4.50.
#3 Without A Fight
He is looking to become the first horse since Ethereal in 2001 to win the Caufield Cup and Melbourne Cup in the same year.
There is no reason why he won’t.
Jockey Mark Zahra elected to ride Without A Fight over Gold Trip so time will tell if he is as good a judge as he is a jockey.
#6 Soulcombe
An incredibly talented horse, but he starts his races as slowly as plenty of Aussies will start tomorrow morning with a hangover.
If he can step away cleanly and be around midfield in the run, then he is a tremendous winning chance.
If you back him, the start is imperative.
#4 Breakup
This is the horse who in my opinion is sneaking under the radar and will be a big improver from the Caulfield Cup to the Melbourne Cup.
Has strong form in Japanese staying races and will relish the step up in trip to 3200 metres.
#1 Gold Trip
The defending champion who was a dominant winner of the Turnbull and lost no admirers in the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate.
My concern is how much petrol will be left in the tank and he looks under the odds.
But must again be respected.
For those playing wider exotics, some runners worth including are #21 Future History, #15 Lastotchka and #7 Absurde.
