Market movers in early betting at Doomben & Scone 12 May 2018

As the Brisbane winter carnival moves into full swing, sharp punters have not missed picking off what they perceive to be incorrect pricing from the nation's leading bookies. More often than not a large gapping move is clearly a sign “The Pros” are active in the market. We have identified these moves below, which reflect their activity in the market.

Doomben Early Market Moves

Tango Rain

Featured in last weeks Market Movers report which is always a great sign. He jumped awkwardly on that occasion in the Hawkesbury Rush, however still finished close enough in fifth, beaten just under three lengths. Gets Corey Brown here and luxury gate 2, money is there again to suggest he runs well.

 

Sheiswhatsheis

Interesting runner coming into this off the back of a nice second up performance in the Tamworth Cup where she ran fifth. Although she was untouched in betting that day, must be showing plenty at home post the run, and has been backed off the map this week.

 

Rising Red

Is very well travelled for his last few coming via Flemington, Bendigo and Randwick. The JRA Plate run at Randwick was excellent behind some very smart ones, go back three starts and he was 3 lengths off Seaburge and Sovereign Nation. That is very hot form.

 

Pizonie

A nice move at longer odds here for this two year old gelding. Arrives to take on stakes grade after a dominant debut at the Sunshine Coast where he won with ease. He was hammered in the market that day ($2.20 into $1.75). Love this young SP profile and money speaks all languages. Can repeat.

 

Marsupial

Godolphin runner who is flying this prep and has won past two. Jumps up to stakes grade here however deserves his chance. Whilst this has not been the most vicious move in betting, still must respect the early money and if more comes it could pay to follow the move.

 

Youngstar

Gets to the 2000m for the first time and when the money is on in this scenario you can be confident they have been waiting and will run it right out. The Waller stable do like a bet and they didn’t miss last start either when he was $3.10 into $2.60 late, before racing away with it. Smells of something similar here.

 

Higher Ground

Typical Sydney raider who is peaking at the right time. Last start Randwick win was good in stakes grade and there looks to be plenty more to come. Glyn Schofield and Waller are a dynamic combination and should be right in the finish based on the strong market support.

 

Dark Dream

They keep backing this fellow and he has proved somewhat of a money muncher, running second at his last 3 starts! It has not stopped them again this week from piling it on. Recent runs have been excellent and could easily see him break through here to repay the faithful.

 

 

Scone Early Market Moves

Mazaz

High profile ownership group involved with this runner and they have clearly been told by Waller to bet up. Smells like a classic Scone sting where they have targeted this race specifically for a bet, after a number of provincial runs. Watch betting late.

 

Pretty In Pink

John O’Shea knows when to back one and the stable have clearly done so here with this filly. Has to overcome a tricky gate 10 draw but “the gun” will navigate that with ease. Although was slightly easy in betting last start (still won), Segenhoe Stud (Peter O’Brien) will be expecting results on their big local race day and cannot see her running a bad one.

 

Sasso Corbaro

Arrives first up for this for Kris Lees after trialling nicely at Newcastle. The money is on however suspect the feet are a big concern, with the dreaded synthetic hoof filler applied for the first time. Certainly could not dive in with the perceived hoof issues even with a strong late push in betting. Wait and watch.

 

Dyslexic

Was placed at stakes level at Randwick last start, which is great form for this. Team Hawkes are hot and cold of late when they back one, hence the early move gives no huge confidence. Draws nicely and has Avdulla aboard, who will most likely drag her back to near last. Given a clear passage will be running over the top late.

 

To Excess

Great profile being first up and well backed. The trial at Wyong was ultra impressive and if he can run up to that will simply win. Has some excellent form around the likes of Bon Amis (hard in the market last start) and Firsthand. Has to take on some smart ones however has more upside than most.
