This week we have identified two warm favourites that both come up at poison prices and appear poor value at their current odds.

At Flemington, a dominant last start winner faces a completely different challenge with his first look down the famous straight course, which is never a straightforward assignment.

At Randwick, another recent winner must contend with a rise in both class and weight, while also facing a potentially awkward race shape.

Saturday Lays of the Day 20/6/26

Flemington Race 4 #1 Ice Kool $1.90

The market has fully latched onto the dominant Randwick win last start where he over raced early and still proved far too strong for his opposition.

While the performance was visually impressive, it is exactly the type of run that often forces a horse into under the odds territory at its next appearance.

The biggest concern here is his first attempt down the Flemington straight. Not every horse adapts to the unique conditions and many talented gallopers have struggled at their first look.

The strength of the form line is also open to question. He did not beat a particularly strong field last start and now faces several Victorian runners who have shown genuine ability.

At the current quote, the risk far outweighs the reward.

He looks an excellent chance to be rolled as a warm favourite.

Lay.

Randwick Race 4 #1 Hello Captain $2.00

A rise in grade and a rise in weight is never an ideal combination, particularly for a horse already sitting at a very short quote in betting.

He has won his past two starts this preparation, however those victories came with favourable race setups and the ability to settle with cover before producing his run at the right time.

This assignment looks much tougher.

From barrier one he risks finding himself buried away along the rail, and extracting into clear running at the right moment may prove difficult.

The rise to Benchmark 72 grade presents another challenge and he will need to improve again to continue his winning streak.

The market appears heavily influenced by recent results, however this race presents a very different set of circumstances.

With an awkward speed map and additional weight to carry, he shapes as an excellent risk.

Avoid.
