This week we focus on two Magic Millions runners, including the favourite for the feature 2yo event run over the tight turning 1200m of the Gold Coast track.

Earlier in the day a popular sprinter comes up at poison odds and appears an excellent risk from the tricky draw and against a better-quality field this time out.

Whilst in the main event, the Magic Millions 2yo favourite has his first look at the track.

Many good horses could only manage to “crab” around the sharp turns and may never return if they don’t handle the unique set-up.

Avoid both runners at their current short quotes in betting.

Horse Racing Lays on Saturday

Gold Coast Race 4 #1 Rothfire $3.10

Keen to be against the sentimental and mug money likely to be associated with this high-profile runner, who is now ageing and on the way down.

He is almost certain to be over-bet due to his last start winning status, where he won a weak race at Toowoomba after traveling wide.

He is up against it here now back to genuine Saturday metro grade, and won’t find it as easy against some of these high-quality fellow group-performed runners.

From the wide draw (gate 16) they will have to burn plenty of fuel early and with a ton of speed drawn inside, there are no guarantees he will find the fence.

He comes up as an excellent risk at the current quote, where the price can only lengthen from here.

Avoid.

Gold Coast Race 8 #1 Storm Boy $2.80

Gun colt who has no doubt been racing well, however faces a tricky setup with his first look at a tight turning Gold Coast track against a top field.

He was excellent winning at Eagle Farm last start when he beat up on a weak field on a track that allowed him to balance up close to speed and cruise down the longer straight.

It will be a different proposition at the Gold Coast where some don’t handle the sharp turns.

Launching from gate 10 he is also a genuine risk of missing a position early, in what is almost always a mad scramble through the first 200m.

The current price ($2.80) appears pure poison to my eye, and he is another runner that should drift in the market on the day, where $3+ should be widely available late.

Lay.
