Race 1 – Tarpaulin
There is no hiding the rising three-year-old colt’s ability and he was impressive again on Saturday.
Yes the track downgrade did suit him coming off two wet runs, but he was utterly dominant as he accelerated through the tough going to record another victory.
The race rated well in comparison to the other sprints on the day.
They equalled the initial split of the BM72 claimed by High Dubai, and also had a stronger finish.
Additionally, they started at a stronger pace and stormed home faster than the stablemate Fleetwood in the BM88, granted that Fleetwood contended with a broader route and a worsening track condition.
Tarpaulin can go to a race like The Rosebud and be very competitive.
Race 9 – Etna Rosso
This was a really good return from the Waller-trained import.
Etna Rosso was gelded leading into this campaign and it was good to see him produced over the 1800m first-up, a sign that the camp will be wasting little time getting him over his best trip.
The Irish stayer won over 2110m at the end of last campaign in impressive fashion and he backed-up his good trials with this eye-catching return.
He ran the 29th fastest last 400m and 18th fastest last 200m of the meeting off a very fast run 1800m, a huge sign he has come back in terrific order.

Race 4 – Idle Flyer
Although we don’t have the sectional data to dive into the win of Idle Flyer, there was a tremendous amount to like following her win.
The daughter of Dundeel was eye-catching producing a monstrous last 200m on debut at Newcastle in a walking race.
She was heavily backed as soon as markets went up on Thursday ($11 to $4.40) and jumped $2.30 on raceday following deductions.
Jaden Lloyd made a good thing of her, riding her on-speed and putting the opposition away with contempt.
Although the clock won’t show a huge time, the way she moved was class and she can now step up in trip and continue her rise through her grades.

Race 5 – Sunset Dreaming
Think there is little doubt this was the best horse beat across the day.
Blake Shinn got into a bumping match with Jye McNeil aboard Amousirra at the top of the straight and although he succeeded in keeping his main market rival in a pocket, he copped a couple of huge bumps, pushing Sunset Dreaming sideways on multiple occasions and losing almost all momentum.
This allowed Herbert Park to skip away and hold on for a narrow win with Sunset Dreaming charging late.
Sunset Dreaming produced a monstrous last 200m, the fastest of the meeting.
Follow her wherever she goes next in similar company.
