After a cracking start to the Spring Carnival, the stage now shifts to the main event. The Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Four massive days at Flemington in the space of a week, and it all kicks off with Derby Day, arguably the most prestigious raceday on the Australian calendar.
Every race is black-type, every field is deep and every punter is looking to find that early edge heading into Cup Week.
While the Derby might carry the tradition, it’s the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes that’s often the real launching pad for future champions.
Run over the famous Flemington straight for the best three-year-olds in the land, this race has produced stallion-making moments.
Think of the likes of Zoustar, Brazen Beau, and Home Affairs.
This year’s edition is no different.
A stack of emerging stars, a few proven Group performers, and the ever-dangerous Godolphin blue in force again with two key runners.
It shapes as a genuine drag race from start to finish and one where the pace will be brutal.

Track Conditions
The Flemington track is currently rated a Good 4, and despite some light rain on Friday, it should dry back into that range by raceday.
The rail is True, ensuring every horse gets its chance.
As always, expect them to split into lanes up the straight where positioning will be key.
Speed Map & Race Shape
Plenty of early speed here. Expect Legacy Bound (4), Hidden Motive (6), and Raging Force (7) to spear up the middle, while Beiwacht (10) and McGaw (12) lead the charge on the grandstand side.
Sitting right behind them will be Skyglider (3) and Beadman (8) in perfect stalking roles, while Tycoon Star (9) and Jimmy Recard (11) tuck in behind the grandstand leaders.
Backmarkers My Gladiola (1), Skyhook (2), and Tentyris (5) will be watching it all unfold in front of them before unleashing late. Expect a hot tempo early that sets it up beautifully for those who can conserve energy and strike late.

Selections & Analysis
1st – #10 Beiwacht ($4.00)
Backing Chris Waller to win his seventh Coolmore in 12 years.
The son of Bivouac absolutely destroyed his rivals in the Golden Rose, and that form has stacked up big time.
Tempted (3rd) went on to run second in The Everest, while Autumn Boy (7th) came out and won the Caulfield Guineas.
He’s been kept sharp for this drop back to 1200m and his Sydney trial wins were outstanding, especially over Stefi Magnetica, who franked the form by winning The Invitation.
Drawn to the grandstand side, where the best ground has been recently, he’s the one they’ll all have to chase.
2nd – #8 Beadman ($5.00)
Absolutely flying for Peter Snowden.
Was a moral beaten in the Roman Consul and looks tailor-made for the Flemington straight.
He’s drawn the perfect barrier (8), gets Blake Shinn, and will stalk the leaders before letting rip late.
Main danger to the favourite.
3rd – #12 My Gladiola ($10.00)
Straight-track specialist who arguably brings the best local form after splitting McGaw and Tentyris in the Danehill.
Meets McGaw 1.5kg better and should be right in the mix again.
Over the odds at double figures.
4th – #9 Legacy Bound ($17.00)
Don’t sleep on this Robbie Griffiths colt.
Finished within 0.3L of Tentyris in the Danehill and looked stronger through the line.
Has trialled well since and maps for a nice run behind the speed.
A sneaky knockout chance at big odds.
This year’s Coolmore Stud Stakes looks every bit a two-horse race between Beiwacht and Beadman, but with the tempo likely red-hot and both sides of the track in play, there’s enough depth to suggest a genuine upset isn’t out of the question.
Whatever happens, this will be one of the highlights of Derby Day and potentially a glimpse at Australia’s next superstar sprinter.
