It’s one of the great punting days of the year, Caulfield Guineas Day, a stacked card headlined by the $3 million Caulfield Guineas for the nation’s elite three-year-olds.

This isn’t just another Group 1. It’s the gateway to superstardom.

The race that separates contenders from pretenders and often turns colts into stallions with stud books waiting for their names.

The Sydney form meets the Melbourne form here and the result will likely shape the spring’s next big story.

Caulfield Guineas 2025 Tips & Best Bets

Track Conditions

Caulfield is rated a Good 4, but there’s a light chance of rain on Saturday afternoon, which could edge the surface into the Soft range by race time.

The rail is True and Caulfield should play fairly, giving every horse its chance.

Speed Map & Race Shape

Expecting a strong, honest tempo.

Several runners like Vega For Luck (7), Observer (9), and Romantic Encounter (13) will roll forward, while Space Rider (11), Vinrock (14), and West Of Swindon (16) have all shown they race best on speed.

That tricky draw for Vinrock (14) and West Of Swindon (16) means they might be forced to go back if Space Rider presses on early.

Favourite Wodeton (10) maps perfectly a few pairs back off the solid tempo, while Autumn Boy (1) and Navy Pilot (2) will need some luck from inside draws.

Although history says barriers 1–5 are gold in this race, producing 22 of the last 35 winners.

With plenty of early heat, expect the race to open right up for the swoopers late.

Selections & Analysis

1st – #2 Wodeton $3.80

Normally, you’d hesitate to take a favourite with only one career win but this race sets up perfectly for him.

The Golden Rose has been the proven form line for this race in recent years, and with no Beiwacht here, Wodeton looks the one to beat.

He’ll love any give in the ground, and the mile is right in his wheelhouse.

With James McDonald in the saddle and Chris Waller preparing him for his grand final, it’s hard to see them missing.

I expect Wodeton to make his mark and confirm his stallion credentials for Coolmore.

Wodeton

2nd – #4 Nepotism $16.00

He’s been a little plain this prep, but this race sets up beautifully.

His last effort at 1600m was a Group 1 Champagne Stakes win where he flew home from the back.

The addition of Blake Shinn is a huge plus.

Look for him to be storming late and finishing all over them.

3rd – #3 Vinrock $8.00

Was a top pick before the barrier draw, but that wide alley makes things tough.

He’s at his best when on pace, but may have to go back here, especially if he’s slow out again.

The winkers go back on, which is a big positive and it’s the same gear he wore in his impressive Exford Plate win.

If he somehow gets across early, he can still win, but he’ll need everything to fall into place.

4th – #10 Space Rider $26.00

The Guineas Prelude form can’t be ignored, and he’s the one to follow out of it.

Loved his late work there and should be even better over the mile.

Drawn nicely in barrier 11 to roll forward or slot in with cover.

He’s the type who can hang in for a placing at big odds.

Cody’s Verdict

Everything about this year’s Caulfield Guineas points to Wodeton being the colt to take that next step.

He’s got the map, the camp, the form, and the grand final setup.

The race may crown the next big star and Wodeton looks ready to grab that crown.
