One of the biggest race days of the Spring Carnival is upon us with Caulfield Guineas Day set to feature three Group 1 races this Saturday, including the Might & Power and Toorak Handicap.

While superstar Mr Brightside dominates the market in the Might & Power, currently priced at $1.55, I believe he’s vulnerable at 2000m.

Meanwhile, the Toorak Handicap looks far more open, with multiple legitimate winning chances.

Let's take a closer look at how these two marquee races could play out.

Track Conditions:

The track is rated a Good 4 and with fine weather forecasted, we can expect it to stay that way through to race day.

The rail is in the True position which should see the track playing fairly, as it has for recent meetings.

Caulfield Race 7 – Might & Power (2000m)

The Map

This speed map is tricky to predict as many runners are versatile.

With no clear front-runners, Deny Knowledge (6) should likely take up the lead alongside Jennilala (7).

Mr Brightside (1) will settle in his preferred spot, stalking the leaders from the inside draw, while Vow And Declare (5) should not be far off the pace.

Atishu (8) will likely drop towards the rear, but James McDonald will be keen not to give his rivals too much of a head start.

The Winner

Mr Brightside $1.55

While there are lingering questions around Mr Brightside over 2000m, he is undoubtedly a class above the rest of this field.

His consistent form at the top level makes him the clear favourite.

However, at $1.55 the price feels too short, especially with his 2000m form still in doubt.

Mr Brightside

The Value

Deny Knowledge $8.00

I’ll be backing Deny Knowledge both for a small win and a larger place bet.

Her first-up run in the Underwood Stakes was strong, where she raced wide from the 1000m but still managed to finish 5th.

Second-up at 2000m suits her better, and she’ll likely get an easy lead.

If Mr Brightside underperforms at the distance again, Deny Knowledge could cause an upset and looks a belting play for the place.

Caulfield Race 10 – Toorak Handicap (1600m)

The Map

Bank Maur (4) and Wishlor Lass (9) are the likely front-runners, with favourite Another Wil (1) and Magnaspin (2) tracking right behind them, using their inside draws to sit in the perfect position.

Key chances like Orchestral (6), Antino (8), Alsephina (10), and Desert Lightning (11) will settle midfield or further back, looking for the right runs into the race.

The Winner

Antino $4.80

The Queenslander Antino is finally free from having to chase Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside, making this the perfect opportunity for him to claim his first Group 1.

His last run in the Feehan Stakes was excellent, finishing strongly right behind Mr Brightside.

He maps beautifully, gets in well at the weights and with Blake Shinn sticking with the ride, he should prove very hard to beat.

 Antino

The Value

Desert Lightning $7.00

Desert Lightning offers great value after an impressive win in the Sandown Stakes.

His New Zealand form suggests he’s capable of winning a Group 1 at this distance, and he should be at his peak fitness third-up.

The only concern is the wide draw, but if he can find a position midfield with cover, he’ll be charging home late and could be right in the finish.
