Sunday Best Bets at Sha Tin

Here comes the biggest day of Hong Kong racing this year with 4 Group 1's to be held on the HKIR day at Sha Tin.
The weather has been nice of late, there will be a bit more watering than usual on the turf ground to ensure it will not be too firm.
There are runners from Japan, Ireland, France, Germany, SIngapore and Australia coming to Hong Kong this year, all of them are classy.
Sha Tin Race 4 (Hong Kong Vase)
This 2400m G1 is always dominated by overseas runners, Stone Age trained by Aidan O’Brien is now 3YO, so he can enjoy the weight allowance.
Running 6th in the Epsom Derby and 2nd in the Breeders' Cup Turf, he loves the good or firm ground over 2400m.
He should be the only leader in this race, the pace will be favourable for him.
Mendocino and Botanik are both classy stayers and able to run well as well.
Sha Tin Race 5 (Hong Kong Sprint)
Hong Kong horses are good at sprint races, Wellington is our best sprinter at the moment, he will be ridden by Ryan Moore today.
This 6YO won impressively on his seasonal debut in the Premier Bowl at top weight, although he was beaten last start, he returned stronger in the morning track work recently.
The up-and-coming Lucky Sweynesse is still improving, gate 3 is ideal for him.
Besides, Sight Success has good third-up results and Stronger with Hugh Bowman on board both look interesting.
Sha Tin Race 7 (Hong Kong Mile)
Our two-time Horse Of The Year Golden Sixty is seeking for a third consecutive win in this G1, he is still in top form at the age of 7.
The 4YO California Spangle may be the only leader here, if Zac Purton controls the pace well, he definitely has a chance to win.
Stablemate Beauty Joy will have Hugh Bowman riding, he could let the horse be more relaxed and perform well.
Sha Tin Race 8 (Hong Kong Cup)
It should be really fast as the two Japanese runners Panthalassa and Jack D’Or are likely to lead, but Romantic Warrior is very strong.
Being a Hong Kong Derby and QEII Cup winner last season, Romantic Warrior still keeps his form this season.
It is great to have James McDonald on board, he can ride the horse to stay in the best position and accelerate at the right time.
Besides, Geoglyph has a good turn of foot and he will be ridden by William Buick, he also has a chance.
Sha Tin Race 6 #3 Sweet Encounter $2.00
Ridden by Zac Puton for trainer John Size, Sweet Encounter is up to 1800m for the first time today and he is still likely to win again.
He is a fantastic 4YO by Toronado who scored 3 wins and 1 second from his 4 starts so far in Hong Kong.
He made all and won by 2L last time out over 1600m, his sectional time and finishing time were both solid.
Jumping from gate 2 is good for him, he is fit enough to run well again.
Sha Tin Race 9 #4 Atullibigeal $13.00
If you are looking for an outsider, Atullibigeal ridden by Hugh Bowman is a good value bet for the day.
This 4YO trained by David Hall had 2 placings from his 6 starts in Hong Kong, there is a chance for him to break maiden today.
He will put the blinkers on for the first time, it will be helpful because he jumped well on his recent barrier trial with this gear.
There are some speed in this race, Atullibigeal is expected to stay in the midfield and he should chase well in the home straight.
Sha Tin Race 3 #4 Victor The Winner $2.30
An interesting race where Victor The Winner can make it 3 wins from 4 starts.
He is drawn higher than ideal in gate 11 but his main rivals, Science Patch and Dragon's Luck break from barriers 12 and 13.
The Danny Shum 4YO was an impressive debut winner and unlucky next time after missing the break under Matthew Poon.
He made no mistake on his latest start when defeating Golden Express, a smart horse for John Size who runs later on the card.
James McDonald keeps the ride on the son of Toronado and they can prove too strong for Dragon's Luck, who scored on debut for Douglas Whyte.
Sha Tin Race 8 #11 Geoglyph $15.00
This is a superb renewal of the Longines Hong Kong Cup and I'll take a swing with Geoglyph.
One of five representing Japan, Geoglyph is a lightly raced 3YO who won the Japanese 2,000 Guineas in April.
He showed an excellent attitude to defeat the better fancied Equinox in an exciting finish.
His latest run was just average in the Grade 1, Tenno Sho but he was returning from a 5 month break and has looked sharp on the course at Sha Tin in the build up to this Grade 1 event.
With a handful of runs he remains open to improvement and William Buick is an eye-catching jockey booking for trainer, Tetsuya Kimura.
