Happy Valley Tips for International Jockeys Championship 2023

The International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC) will be held tonight at Happy Valley.

This is one of the world’s most prestigious jockey challenges and there will be 8 overseas jockeys competing, plus 4 Hong Kong-based jockeys.

Bauyrzhan Murzabayev (Germany) and Rachel King (Australia) will make their IJC debut in Hong Kong, while Hollie Doyle (UK), James McDonald (NZ), Mickael Barzalona (France), Ryan Moore (UK), Tom Marquand (UK) and Yuga Kawada (Japan) have already ridden previously at Happy Valley.

There will be 4 legs of the IJC races tonight  run in races 4, 5, 7 and 8.

Happy Valley Race 4 (IJC 1st leg)

#10 Circuit Seven $16.00

Hollie Doyle can kickstart the IJC with a bang on Circuit Seven.

While he has drawn gate 10, he has amazing early acceleration and should be able to find the front.

If he can cross them, he will be hard to reel in over the 1000m.

Trained by Tony Cruz, he has not been beaten far in his 4 runs this season and should be ready to peak here at full fitness.

 

Happy Valley Race 5 (IJC 2nd leg)

#4 M Unicorn $2.00

M Unicorn is chasing for his third career win tonight under Ryan Moore.

This 2-time course and distance winner won easily last time out with a strong turn of foot.

His sectional times were very solid and a repeat performance should see him winning this.

This 5YO will need to carry 130lbs this time, but it should not be a problem for him as he has a strong physique.

Gate 4 is also a good draw for him and will give him every chance to go back-to-back.

 

Happy Valley Race 7 (IJC 3rd leg)

#10 Flying Mojito $8.50

Flying Mojito is another mount of Hollie Doyle in the IJC and he will carry 120 pounds from gate 1.

This seems the perfect set up and strongly increases his chances of winning.

This 5YO is unexposed to a lot of his rivals here and he has shown already in his young career his talent.

He had 2 victories and 5 placings last season, along with an eye-catching barrier trial performance recently.

Looks a great chance at the current price.

 

Happy Valley Race 8 (IJC 4th leg)

#9 Gameplayer Elite $4.40

Gameplayer Elite is an up-and-coming 4YO from Brazil.

He has settled really well in Hong Kong and has run 4th twice from 2 starts here over the 1200m at the city circuit.

With the top Kiwi jockey James McDonald on board, the horse is expected to chase well again and break the maiden tag in Hong Kong.
