Hong Kong racing is back to Happy Valley with a 9-race card on the “A” Course.
Perfect weather sets the scene for the meeting and is quite the comparison to last week with a typhoon causing havoc.
Many horses who were set to run last week have resurfaced at this meeting.
The 12 contenders in Race 8 are exactly the same as last week’s Class 3 1000m and it is expected to be a fierce battle.
The other feature is Race 7, a Class 2 1000m sprint. It's an open event with the majority of the field possessing blistering early speed.
Look for fireworks early.
Happy Valley Race 1 #2 Quorum $16.00
Quorum is yet to break through from 9 attempts so far in Hong Kong.
However, as an unexposed 4YO, he remains a good value bet for us.
It will be his first time stepping up to 1650m and with the pedigree of All Too Hard x Zabeel we should see an improved performance over this distance.
This Richard Gibson-trained gelding showed some potential last start over the 1400m at Sha Tin.
He didn’t jump well but he was strong through the line near the rear of the field.
While he was beat by 6.25 lengths, it also doesn't show the kickback and bumps he took throughout the race.
At the low rating of 36 he gets the perfect set up to perform strongly and also gets the services of Luke Currie.
A great value bet to start the card.
Happy Valley Race 8 #5 Heroic Master $2.20
Heroic Master was named Flucuate before coming to Hong Kong, he was unbeaten in NSW from 2 starts over 1000-1200m.
Just like the other horses who won at Gosford/Wyong and then came to Hong Kong, Heroic Master is expected to be another Happy Valley specialist.
In fact, his debut over 1000m at the city circuit was really eye-catching. He stayed wide without cover but ran a close 3rd behind Ping Hai Galaxy and Seizing The Moment.
This Frankie Lor-trained 4YO has also drawn soft in barrier 3 meaning he can get nice and forward in the run.
Zac Purton takes the ride this time and there is a huge chance for the gelding to score his first win in Hong Kong.
Happy Valley Race 3 #4 Blissful Star $1.95
This top pick has been blissful to bookmakers but it can be the 13th time lucky for the frustrating maiden.
Never worse than 5th in 12 starts, the Jimmy Ting 5YO has placed both starts this season.
He races off a career-high mark but the return to 1650m can produce the necessary improvement to land his first victory.
From gate 1 under Zac Purton everything is in place for a big run.
Happy Valley Race 7 #6 Rock Ya Heart $8.50
A cracking sprint with Rock Ya Heart my on-top pick for Francis Lui.
Both wins have come over 1200m but I'm confident he can run a huge race at the minimum trip.
Looking back, he grabbed 2nd over this course and distance on his final start last season behind Classic Unicorn.
He's yet to win in this grade but has the ability and barrier 3 is perfect.
