Here comes the first Happy Valley night meeting for 2024, with 8 races set to be held on the “A” Course in perfect weather.

James McDonald ended his short term riding contract in Hong Kong recently, while Hugh Bowman is suspended and Zac Purton is enjoying his holiday in Finland.

That leaves us with just 16 jockeys riding in this meeting, and an opportunity for a young gun to make their mark.

Karis Teetan, Lyle Hewitson, and Andrea Atzeni are the 3 fully-booked jockeys, whilst Harry Bentley is back from the long suspension and has 6 rides all of which are strong chances. 

 

 

Happy Valley Race 5 #9 Oversubscribed $10.00

Oversubcribed is a last start winner on the IJC night under Rachel King, breaking well on that occasion before staying in a good position to win impressively.

Along with his prior start on November 22, he also jumped fast under Alexis Badel and ran 2nd over the same distance, showing this 8YO is still competitive in Class 4.

Alexis Badel knows the horse well and he will be on board again.

Encouragingly, the French hoop has been galloping well on this horse in the recent morning trackwork.

The horse is still fit at the age of 8, and cant notch up back-to-back victories tonight.

 

Happy Valley Race 6 #11 M Unicorn $2.50

M Unicorn is looking for a hat-trick of wins under Harry Bentley from gate 4 tonight.

This 3-time course and distance winner has been very consistent this season, winning easily in good sectional times at his last 2 starts.

He scored by 1 lengths in impressive fashion last time out when carrying 130 pounds.

He is up to Class 3 now, and I suspect carrying a light weight makes him more competitive as a backmarker.

This 5YO trialed well recently in Conghua, showing he is still improving at this age, and he is able to progress well in Class 3.
