Hong Kong racing returns to Happy Valley tonight with 9 races on the “C+3” Course in good weather.

Zac Purton and Hugh Bowman are both suspended for this meeting and this puts Karis Teetan as a firm favourite in the Jockey Challenge.

Karis has with 8 rides which all look good chances, while Angus Chung is the only fully-booked jockey.

Tony Cruz is the most active trainer tonight with 11 runners and most of his horses have good recent form.

There are two Class 1 races that have been arranged for tonight’s meeting and while they don't have large fields, they are stacked full of talent.

 

 

Happy Valley Race 2 #3 La City Blanche $4.60

Race 2 is one of the feature races tonight and it's a race we can bet into with confidence.

The first two placegetters in the G3 January Cup, Happy Together and La City Blanche, will be competing again alongside the lightly-weighted Mr Ascendancy.

La City Blanche will be ridden by Angus Chung and he takes off 5 pounds bringing the horse down to 124 lbs.

This is a big advantage for him over Happy Together who will carry 134 lbs.

This Tony Cruz-trained 5YO is running well recently in group company, including a second in the January Cup and a forth in the Centenary Vase.

He will jump from gate 2 this time and it will be good for him to get to the rail around midfield with cover.

If he can do this he should have a great turn of foot at the finish.

 

Happy Valley Race 7 #12 Red Hare King $3.60

Red Hare King is an up and coming 4YO trained by Tony Cruz.

This horse is quite consistent over 1650m at Happy Valley, and after winning over this course and distance on Jan 10, he rose to Class 3 company.

However he was caught in a speed battle and the race was perfectly set up for the backmarkers.

The winner Simply Maverick and the second runner up Turin Mascot chased well and they both ran well on their next starts.

This gives me confidence the form is good and we can back him here at a good price.
