Free Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets for Happy Valley 10/1/24

Eight races are going to be held at Happy Valley tonight in perfect weather and good ground.

Tonight's meeting is special as it features the 1800m G3 January Cup (Race 6), the only group race at the city circuit.

There is a full field of twelve in the January Cup and eight of them will carry less than 120 pounds.

Encountered is the highest-rated runner so he fittingly needs to carry 135 lbs.

This Manfred Man-trained 5YO won the G3 Ladies’ Purse at Sha Tin in November over the 1800m.

This Churchill gelding has great results at Happy Valley and last time when he raced here in June, he stormed home to win by 4.75L despite staying wide without cover.

Encountered should be the one to beat, while Hugh Bowman’s mount Sword Point is fit, also Happy Together and La City Blanche at light weights can’t be ruled out.

 

 

Race 1 #2 August Moon $6.00

Last season was one to forget for August Moon suffering from injuries and setbacks.

He was never able to retain weight and as a result struggled.

He has since come back a healthy and happy horse, meaning his performance should continue to improve.

His rating is down to the career low of 35 and with Angus Chung's claim he will get a further 5 pounds off.

He has a history of being competitive in Class 5 company and will be facing some weak horses.

He was not beaten far over 1200m on the all-weather and the city circuit recently, but he was a bit weakened in the final furlong.

So trying the 1000m distance is a good decision.

Putting on the blinkers (with one cowl only), which was the horse’s winning gear, will also be helpful.

 

Race 4 #6 Talents Supremo $4.80

After joining the Cody Mo stable this season, Talents Supremo broke his maiden in Hong Kong in mid-November.

He has then since continued to run well as he rises through the ratings.

This horse came from gate 12 last start and he tried a new tactic of leading.

It was a good run, but he tired late to finish 4th.

He will jump from a wide draw again this time (gate 10), but it should be better for him to stay in the midfield with cover.

Hugh Bowman takes the ride and should land him in a great position and give him every chance.
