Free Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets for Caulfield 1/6/24

Caulfield hosts a cracking betting program this Saturday and I struggled to narrow my picks down to two best bets.

While there are no black-type races, there is plenty for punters to sink their teeth into with confidence.

The track is currently rated a Good 4 and with fine weather forecast, that will not change.

With the running rail out 9m, it will be ideal to be on-pace and close to the inside.

There are some strong favourites in this meeting, along with a few at odds that carry winning hopes of their own.

Let’s take a look at a couple I believe will be your locks of the day.

Race 7 #9 Highlights $5.00

I was on this Bjorn Baker-trained 6YO last week at Sandown, when he was superb running on to finish 2^nd behind ‘Pudding’.

Prior to last start, he was beaten in a photo finish at Hawkesbury by ‘Rise Of The Masses’ and ‘Fall For Cindy’ when finishing 3^rd.

I'm expecting him to settle closer to the pace here to get the run of the race behind the leaders, like he has done previously.

Baker does not send horses to Melbourne often, with only 11 of his horses racing at Caulfield throughout his career.

Baker has 2 winners from those 11 races and has a strong chance of making it three here.

 

Race 9 #15 Mirzaan $3.60

French import that is having his third Australian start here.

He has hit the ground running in Melbourne and has two great seconds to his name at Caulfield and Flemington.

He was beaten by ‘Amberite’ last start and faces him again here 1kg better at the weights.

This lightly-raced 4yo will appreciate the rise in distance to the 2000m and the last time he was third-up, he won by 2.5-lengths in France.

Damian Lane sticks for the ride and has drawn perfectly in barrier 5, where they will be positive and position just behind the pace.

Has a stack of upside and he will be extremely hard to beat here.
