It's another ripping day of racing at Orange with plenty of talented country horses looking to make their mark over the summer.

Race 1 #5 Carana Anne $3.20

Keen to be with this 4YO mare who will attempt to run her rivals into the ground.

She is resuming here off no public trials but seems to perform best fresh, with a close second at this stage in her last preparation.

She possesses good early muster and from the wide barrier will come across and land in an on-speed position.

With minimal speed surrounding her, jockey Clayton Gallagher will have options should the inside horses kick up in an attempt to hold her out.

Being out of Xtravagant the wet track should be of no concern and she can use this event as a stepping stone to better races this campaign.

 

Race 7 #4 Flying Birds $4.50

While he was disappointing first up I am willing to be forgiving.

He raced on a Heavy track, had to lump 62kg and copped a nasty bump on the bend when he was about to let down.

If anything that run will bring him on and he finds a suitable contest here to make his mark.

The small field works in his favour and the race favourite is another front-running type who won't want to do it in front.

This means they will get clear control of the race and be able to steady the tempo to suit themselves.

Flying Birds trialled exceptionally well leading into this campaign and if he finds the front from the soft draw here will be very hard to reel in.

Experienced jockey Nick Heywood is in the saddle and will be able to get the best out of this horse.
