Mick Gannon – Randwick Kensington Wednesday Best Bets 22/7/26

Race 3 – #4 Amazone $14.00

Amazone shapes as one of the more exciting runners on the program after showing plenty of ability during his first preparation.

He had genuine excuses on debut before producing a much-improved effort second-up at Warwick Farm, where he was held up on heels before working into the clear and finishing strongly into sixth over 1300 metres.

He's been kept ticking over with two quiet trials and now resumes in a race that looks well within his reach.

The booking of James McDonald is a significant positive, particularly in a race where the key market rivals still have questions to answer. With further natural improvement expected, Gannon believes Amazone has the upside to prove too good.

Race 5 – #4 Champagne Hero $2.60

Champagne Hero looks ready to peak third-up and gets every chance to return to the winner's stall.

The inside draw should allow him to settle in a prominent position, while the switch from apprentice Zac Waddick to stable rider Tim Clark is a strong vote of confidence.

The trainer and jockey combination has an impressive strike rate together, and Champagne Hero produced his career-best performance at this stage of his previous preparation.

Everything points towards another peak effort, and with the race mapping perfectly, Gannon expects him to be very hard to beat.
