Flemington Tips: Blazer Stakes Preview 2018

Quality mares engage in girls only battle
Distance | 1400m |
Grade | Group 2 |
Track Rating | Good 4 |
Prizemoney | $200,000 |
Class | 4-Y-O & Up, Mares, SW + P, Maidens Ineligible |
2017 winner | Now Or Later ($10) |
The restricted nature of this mares only Group 2 is an excellent opportunity for those that are a shade below open class, to pick up stakes money and the coveted black type catalogue stamp.
Many of the runners here have been desperate to find a race where they receive respite from some very smart geldings and stallions, however we can use the strong form-lines against the boys to our advantage.
It will pay to follow those who have recently finished close-up behind the smarter ones in unrestricted grade.

Savatiano has been well tried to win this in early betting, backed from an opening $4.20 into $3.80. All other runners remain steady.
Key Runners
#2 Global Glamour $13
Has gone off the boil in recent outings since ambitiously being shopped around as an Everest horse, after trialing like a bomb prior to this preparation.
She is now nowhere near that grade after struggling first-up in the How Now at Group 3 level, where she was never a threat.
Does find a race of perennial battlers here and looks well graded.
She has to be some chance of pushing up to lead from gate one and getting back to her stellar form of past years. Don't sack yet.
#3 Invincibella $5
Raced well all throughout the Brisbane Winter carnival and kicked off the campaign early back in Sydney, when winning the Group 2 Sheraco.
Whilst she has not won in two attempts here at Flemington, the bigger track suits and will allow her every opportunity to wind-up from back in the field and run home over the top, as is her natural pattern.
Hugh Bowman can overcome the wide draw from gate 10 and win. Top hope.
#5 Bella Martini $5.50
Was hard in betting ($6.00 into $4.80) first-up in the Regal Roller at Caulfield, where she was no match for a number of smart ones, although only 1.7 lengths off the winner.
Since then, she came out to just miss in the Group 2 Lets Elope, running 2 of 13 behind I Am A Star (has since won).
This form is exceptional and although gate 11 will be tricky, she must go on top.
#9 Savatiano $4.20 > $3.80
Godolphin can do no wrong and the depth of the stable talent appears endless this Spring.
They have another good mare on their hands here and she has dominated Sydney and NSW provincial grade of late.
She should have won her last start at Newcastle, after being trapped wide and still there at the end in stakes class.
Has her first look at Flemington in this and will be back midfield with cover, from where she can peel and run home over the top. Leading chance.
Of The Others
#6 Tulip was good winning last start at Caulfield and does have a touch of quality.
She looks well placed in this event, again at mares only restricted level. If they bet $15+ she is certainly worth a ticket.
