Headquarters hosts feature racing for back-to-back weeks and showcases a monster 10-race program.
Despite there being no black-type racing, there are still plenty of good bets to be had with some quality runners engaged.
The track is currently a Good 4 but will likely be upgraded to a Good 3 on Saturday with the warm weather forecasted.
The running rail goes out 9m, after being out 4m last week, but will still see the track play evenly and give all runners a fair shot.
Cody continues to nail his best bets at a good clip.
Flemington Tips and Best Bets
Race 5 #1 A Little Deep $5.00
I have landed on this lightly-raced and talented 4yo Deep Field mare, who is in superb form this preparation.
She bounced back to winning ways with a strong performance at Moonee Valley, after failing as a $2 favourite at Ballarat on a Heavy track.
She has to carry 60kg here but the stable has elected to go with top jockey Blake Shinn instead of a weight-claiming apprentice, so you can trust they are confident this mare can handle it.
The Flemington straight should suit her nicely and she is drawn well in barrier 4.
There is not a lot of pace in this race and she should get the perfect run in behind the speed while the favourite ‘Kin’ will be further back in the field, as will second favourite ‘Sans Doute’.
She will get all the favours and be tough to run down. Look for her to make it career win number 4 from 6 starts.
Race 10 #5 Johnny Rocker $2.90
There is plenty of market expectations that this 4yo will make a winning debut for the Nick Ryan stable and that thought is shared by myself.
He showed plenty of ability in his six runs in Queensland including a Listed win as a 2yo and a 4th in a Listed race as a 3yo behind the handy ‘Golden Boom’.
He now comes to Victoria and has had three jump outs leading into this first-up run, looking superb in his most recent two.
He was hard held in the most recent jump outs and motored to the line on each occasion.
He is a smooth mover and will be suited to the Flemington straight.
The stats show he performs well fresh (2:1-0-1) and should get the perfect run in the race here, just behind the speed, from barrier 7.
Looks a class above these and gives all the indications he can win well.
