It's a rare sight at this time of year.

A race with implications on the biggest event in November, the Melbourne Cup.

That's the importance of the the Listed Andrew Ramsden, with the winner punching their spot in ‘the race that stops a nation’.

South Australian 5yo mare ‘The Map’ is currently the $2.90 favourite to secure that early entry and give connections the perfect preparation in Spring.

The track is currently rated a Soft 5 but with rain forecasted Friday, it will end up being a Soft 6.

The running rail is out 4m and should give all runners their opportunity to win.

This race card is superb from a betting perspective.

There are a few strong favourites across the program as well as plenty of rougher hopes that carry solid winning chances also.

Have found one of each in the best bets this week.

Flemington Race 4 #8 Flying Fizz $6.50

Steps up in class here but isn't out of her depth, coming off a superb effort last start at Warrnambool.

During a carnival at the Bool where the leaders where heavily favoured, this 3yo Street Boss filly was huge from the back and ran home to finish 6th.

She rises to the 1400m second-up here, a move that saw this filly win last preparation at Sandown.

She is sure to appreciate coming to the bigger track of Flemington and maps perfectly with the strong pace in this race.

I have her getting on the back of ‘Modown’, who will produce a powerful run into the race from the back.

She has plenty of upside and gets her chance to shoot for her third win from five starts.

Flemington Race 8 #12 The Map $2.90

Talented staying mare from South Australia who comes into this off the back of a dominant Queen Elizabeth Cup victory at Morphettville.

The last time she was at this track and distance, she was phenomenal with a 4.25-length demolition job on Melbourne Cup Day.

She loses the services of Jamie Kah this time around but gains top jockey Damian Lane instead for the ride.

She won’t mind the wet conditions either, having had 2 wins from 7 on Soft ground.

Unless there is big improvement from one of her rivals here, I personally can’t see her being beaten.

‘Excelleration’ is the only serious challenger, being one of the runners that did knock her off in the Adelaide Cup a few months ago, but would need a huge effort first-up to beat her again.

She is a very promising stayer who should not only win this, but will also run a strong race in the Cup later this year.
