David Gately heads to Sandown expecting a genuine Heavy track, with recent meetings showing a clear trend of runners avoiding the inside lanes and building momentum wider on the course.
With the rail out 6m and rain-affected conditions likely to play a major role, proven wet-track performers and horses capable of sustaining long runs look set to hold an advantage.
Track Conditions
• Expected Surface: Heavy
• Rail Position: 6m
• Recent Pattern: Runners well away from the inside rail
David Gately – Sandown Hillside Best Bets
Bet Of The Day
Race 4 – #2 Clevor Trevor
Clevor Trevor has done nothing wrong this preparation and looks capable of extending his winning streak.
He made it two wins from two runs this campaign last start when tackling both wet ground and 1400m for the first time, producing a strong finish to score despite still having improvement to come.
The form around that race continues to hold up, with Bel Mezyaan again racing well since, adding confidence to the overall profile.
He rises to 58kg but continues to improve and importantly has yet to produce a poor performance.
If he handles the conditions as expected, he looks the horse they all have to beat.
Best Value Bet
Race 9 – #3 Emmadella
Emmadella appeals as one of the better value runners on the program.
She resumed from a lengthy spell before finding herself outsprinted in a genuinely run race at Caulfield second-up, however her closing work through the line was encouraging.
The return to 1400m looks ideal and her form at the distance is stronger than many realise.
The last time she tackled the trip she defeated all but the talented Cool Jakey, a form line that reads well for a race of this nature.
In an open contest where several runners have claims, Gately believes the early double-figure quote represents genuine value.
