David Gately heads to Flemington expecting a genuine winter surface, with light rain forecast to keep the track in the Soft range.
The rail returns to the True position after sitting 11 metres out at the previous meeting, where on-pace runners controlled much of the program.
While the straight races were won down the outside, the extreme outside lanes weren't the place to be after recent aeration, making track position another key factor on Saturday.

David Gately – Flemington Best Bets 4/7/26
Bet Of The Day
Race 7 – #3 Al Duca
Al Duca looks ready to return to the winner's circle.
His Bendigo Mile run is easy to forgive after being forced to work throughout from a wide position.
Freshened up before his latest run, he looked the winner a long way from home after taking over on a genuinely run race, only to be grabbed in the final strides.
That effort should have brought him right on and with the added fitness, Gately expects him to be even tougher to run down this time.
He's a genuine, consistent galloper who rarely runs a poor race and looks to have found a very suitable assignment.
Best Value Bet
Race 8 – #9 Ludlum
Ludlum appeals as one of the better value runners on the program.
He covered plenty of ground first-up against older horses before producing an impressive victory over horses like Showdown, a form line that ties in strongly with many of his rivals here.
Second-up has proven to be a sweet spot previously, having scored an impressive maiden victory under similar circumstances despite covering extra ground.
This looks an open race and Gately believes the current quote offers genuine value.
