David Gately heads to Caulfield this Saturday with three plays across the card, led by an exciting import who looks ready to make an immediate impact first-up.

Caulfield is expected to remain in the Soft range, with some rain around on Friday.

The rail moves out to 4m after racing in the True position last meeting, when on-speed runners enjoyed a significant advantage with six of the nine winners sitting within 2.2 lengths of the lead at the 600m.

Gately’s value bet gets blinkers for the first time and should be ready to peak third-up, while his roughie comes up at huge odds in a race where a strong tempo could bring her right into play.

David Gately’s Melbourne Best Bets – Caulfield Saturday 29/8/26

Bet of the Day – Race 9 #10 Yellow Jersey

Yellow Jersey is an exciting import returning for his second Australian preparation and his Queensland form immediately stamped him as a horse with plenty of upside.

He was excellent when chasing home a fit and flying wet-tracker before heading straight to the paddock, with a good margin back to third adding further merit to the performance.

Everything about his return suggests he has come back in excellent order.

His trials have been particularly impressive, including his latest Sydney hit-out where he comfortably accounted for Barnavara while still under a hold.

Fresh, proven with some give in the ground and trialling superbly, Yellow Jersey looks ready to make a winning return.

Best Value Bet – Race 1 #5 Butternut Princess

Butternut Princess produced a nice return over 1100m before making a sharp rise to 1400m second-up at Caulfield.

She finished that race strongly despite the pattern of the meeting favouring horses closer to the speed, giving her performance plenty of merit.

Now she gets to her third run of the preparation, which is significant considering she won third-up last campaign.

The blinkers also go on and should help sharpen her up at the right stage of the preparation.

At around $8, Butternut Princess looks over the odds.
